Why Is Intergenerational Trauma a Common Experience for Indigenous People?

Canadian law was built on the idea that Indigenous people needed to be “civilized,” yet Indigenous Nations have had strong political, social, and legal systems since time immemorial.

Colonial laws like the Indian Act, Residential Schools, and the 60s Scoop aimed to erase Indigenous identity. Their impacts, including intergenerational trauma, systemic inequality, and cultural loss are still being felt today. Even with Truth and Reconciliation, many barriers remain.

Our new publication, Medicines For Healing: Your Wellness Guide on Your Journey Through the Canadian Justice System explores these impacts. You can download a digital copy of the Medicines for Healing booklet or order printed copies by mail here: https://shop.bearpawlegalresources.ca/collections/new/products/medicines-for-healing
