Preschool had a special treat today! 🌊🌊

Today the children were invited to explore dulse—a familiar and meaningful part of life here on our island. For many of our children, dulse is more than just something we eat; it’s part of their everyday experiences, their families, and their community.

Through this invitation, the children had the opportunity to touch, smell, observe, and share their own knowledge and stories. It was wonderful to hear their connections—many spoke about family members who harvest, prepare, or even run their own dulse businesses.

By bringing familiar, meaningful materials into our program, we help strengthen children’s sense of identity, belonging, and pride in their community 💚

The Early Learning Room got a little messy and had a LOT of fun exploring oobleck! 👐

What may look like simple sensory play is actually rich learning in action. The children were investigating how oobleck changes from solid to liquid, strengthening fine motor skills through scooping and squeezing, and using descriptive language to share their discoveries.

We love seeing curiosity come to life through hands-on, play-based learning! 💛

If your kiddos come home today with muddy boots (and possibly a missing sock or two), we can explain.....😆

Through exploring muddy puddles, children are:
- building gross motor, coordination, and core strength
- gaining social and language skills as they interact with peers
- building a strong connection and appreciation for nature
- engaging in risk taking
- exploring sensory and emotional regulation

For over 13 years, The Anchorage Provincial Park has been proudly managed by BGC Grand Manan, your local Boys & Girls Club. From the island's only accessible boardwalk to summer employment for island youth, we're honoured to steward this Bay of Fundy gem. We will be open this year on May 15th. Come see what community-run looks like. 🌊🐇⛺

Depuis plus de 13 ans, le parc provincial Anchorage est fièrement géré par le BGC Grand Manan, votre club de garçons et filles local. De la seule promenade accessible de l'île aux emplois d'été pour les jeunes insulaires, nous sommes honorés de prendre soin de ce joyau de la baie de Fundy. Nous serons ouverts cette année le 15 mai. This week, our preschool class was honored to welcome local author (and Librarian extraordinaire at the Grand Manan Library / Bibliothèque de Grand Manan) Rachel Woodworth, who graciously shared her book "Out, Out, Away From Here" with us.
