Christina Lake Community Association
welcomes you to
Christina Lake Community Hall
A BRIEF HISTORY
In 1940 the people of the area, a big population of about 300, decided they wanted a community centre for social gatherings. By 1943 the vacant Lagoon Pavilion was purchased and the Christina Lake Community Hall was born with the grand opening of the hall (at 50¢/person) held 3 days before Christm
as 1945. As reported in the GF Gazette, “The official opening of the Christina Lake Community Club in their commodious new quarters took place Sat. Dec.22, 1945 with a dance & prize draw; money raised being used to make further improvements.”
Shortly after a mortgage burning party in Mar. 1947, the structure burned to the ground. In August 1947 a large group gathered on Maida Flats and banded together with a vision of constructing a new haven for community activities; the current hall was conceived and constructed. Renovations, largely carried out by volunteers, have occurred over the years with major interior and exterior work done in 1971, 1993 & 2000. In 2005 a dedicated group of gardeners created the lakeview garden north of the hall … a perfect site for weddings and celebrations. As expressed in 1993 at facelift celebrations at the hall:
“It’s a history of volunteers at CL that have allowed the CL Community Club to exist and serve the community for the last 50 years. Without the dedicated energy of these individuals, Christina Lake would not be the rich, enjoyable and interesting community to live in that it currently is.” Dennis Thome and
“It’s been the soul of community activities.” Cec Sandner,
We can echo these statements in 2015 and thank all in our Christina Lake past for Christina Lake Community Hall, “Heart of the Lake”. Bookings:250-447-9771
