Last week, we were proud to officially present a portion of the funds raised through our Boot Drive to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada and Lionel Kelland Hospice.

Our friends at the Hospice captured the spirit of this achievement perfectly in their message below.

Congratulations to all of our students on another outstanding effort!!

🚨 $4,000 Raised for Hospice Care! 🚒

We are incredibly grateful to the Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Department, and the Grand Falls-Windsor Youth Firefighters, who led this year’s Fill the Boot Campaign, raising an amazing $4,000 in support of end-of-life care at Lionel Kelland Hospice.

It is truly heartwarming to see young people so committed to giving back to their community. Their efforts are a reflection of the outstanding mentorship provided by the leaders of the Youth Firefighters Program, who are helping shape the next generation through valuable life lessons in leadership, service, teamwork, and community involvement.

We would also like to extend our congratulations to this year’s Youth Firefighter graduates, who completed the program on June 5. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving others are something to be proud of. 🌟

🎓 Congratulations to the Youth Firefighters Program Class of 2026!

Thank you for choosing to make a difference in such a meaningful way. The future of our community is bright with young leaders like you stepping forward to serve, support, and make a lasting impact on the lives of others. đź’šđź’™

As in previous years, we were also proud to graduate five exchange students from Germany, Brazil, and Spain. Congratulations on your achievement and thank you for being part of the program!

A special thank you to Mayor Mike Brown, Councillor Hiscock, and Chief Vince Mackenzie for attending the ceremony and sharing words of encouragement with our graduates.

Finally, thank you to our instructors. This program would not be possible without your commitment, guidance, and support.

Congratulations to the Youth Firefighter Program Class of 2026! We are proud of each and every one of you and look forward to seeing what you accomplish next.

Tonight marked our final Wednesday night session.

The students helped clean the fire hall in preparation for Friday's graduation and were treated to a ride in the fire trucks to celebrate their last evening together.

We are looking forward to celebrating this graduating class on Friday alongside their instructors, families, and special guests.

If any parents / Guardians have questions or need additional information about the graduation ceremony, please send us a message here and we will be happy to help.

Today, our students completed their year-end training day!

The day was dedicated to putting the skills they have learned over the past 14 weeks to the test through a series of realistic emergency response scenarios. Training activities included a simulated house fire with victim rescues, live vehicle fires, and hands-on experience with a live-fire extinguisher training prop.

We are incredibly proud of all the students for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism throughout the program. Great job, everyone!

We would also like to take this opportunity to give a huge shout-out to our instructors. In addition to their regular training commitments and responding to emergency calls, they generously dedicate countless hours during the week and on weekends to mentor and train our youth. Please join us in thanking them in the comments for their commitment and support.

A special thank you as well to Evangel Pentecostal Church for their random act of kindness in dropping off gift cards for the students today. Your generosity was greatly appreciated.

We have one more Wednesday evening session remaining before graduation on Friday night. We look forward to celebrating our students' accomplishments alongside their instructors, special guests, and families.

Congratulations to all of our students—we can't wait to celebrate with you!

Tonight’s session saw crews switch stations from last weeks session:

We would like to send a big THANK-YOU to NEWCO Metals for allowing us to use their yard and vehicles for this program.

Group 1 focused on Vehicle Extrication. Vehicle extrication is the process of safely removing a patient trapped inside a vehicle after a crash. Firefighters use specialized hydraulic tools, struts, and saws to stabilize the vehicle and cut or dismantle the frame and doors, allowing for the safe rescue of occupants. Students got hands-on experience with our hydraulic rescue tools — You may know them better as the “Jaws of Life” — and practiced techniques for glass removal and door removal.

Group 2 focused on Fire Streams, Hydrants, and additional aerial ladder work. Fire streams are streams of water or other extinguishing agents discharged from a hoseline onto a target area. Firefighters use them to absorb heat, extinguish flames, control smoke, and protect surrounding exposures or personnel. Students worked together to advance live hoselines and experienced the real pressure behind them.

Great job, students!
