Cuerda Seca Workshop with Ruth Anne.
We are offering a second chance to create unique pottery in July. Sign up now to learn this ancient glaze technique.

Day 1 - July 11th – Learn and practice the technique; create simple slab work and plan design. 9 to 4 pm
Day 2 - July 25 – Apply resist and “wonder glaze” (stroke and coat) on bisque-fired slab pieces. 9 to 4 pm

“Cuerda Seca, is a traditional ceramic surface decoration technique used to create vibrant, mutli-coloured tile designs, originating in the Middle East during the 10th-century and later popularized in Spain.

The first day of our Cuerda Seca pottery workshop with Ruth Anne was on Saturday. We learned the glaze technique on these tester tiles which still need to be fired. The colours will be as bright as the plate shown. We also made some items to glaze on the 6th. So interesting to learn this ancient glaze application.

Teaser, I think Ruth Anne is going to run this 2-day workshop again in July, oh my!! Watch for it.

The Children's Program during Paint Ontario is just one way the GBAC gives back to the community.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 to 3 p.m., of this week, approximated 300 students from 5 local schools will take part in creative activities and learn to appreciate the fine arts at Paint Ontario
They get to do a scavenger hunt in the gallery, make a pottery bird and decorate a terra cotta pot.

We appreciate a grant from the Sunset Community Foundation to hep with the cost and none of this could have happened without the many, many volunteers before and during the program.

Koen Martin is such a talented young artist. I watched him yesterday at his demo as he started to sculpt from a drawing he made. This morning he worked at the Art Centre Shoppe for a bit and you can see the progress he made over the 2 days. Although he will take many hours to fine tune this piece you can already see how awesome it will be. You can see Koen's work (the last two pics) at the Art Centre Shoppe, ready for purchase.

More unique demos are still to come.

The GB Art Centre is supporting the efforts of BoWaine Ma and the Skate Club
Her and Ryan will be doing skateboarding demos during Paint Ontario at the skate park on May 9 & 10 from 12-4pm to promote summer camps they are offering.

Paint Ontario is a great event for artists and collectors to gather, but also an amazing community space for youth to connect! A helmet is recommended but no experience is required! We’ll provide all youth with boards and padding for their first time. Come out to meet our local coaches and check out some NEW skate obstacles that have been
donated by Home Hardware for our summer surf & skate camps!
