Join us at the Golden Farmers Market as we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this Wednesday Sept 30th at our final summer season market at Spirit Square from 10-3pm.

We invite our community to wear orange, take time to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, and consider the role each of us can play in reconciliation.

The day’s programming will include a welcome prayer, a performance by Métis musician Stephanie Ballendine, a Big Drum demonstration, and a performance by Sandie Cantin.

Local Food Matters respectfully acknowledges that we gather on the traditional, unceded territories of the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc peoples. We also honour the cultural contributions and continued stewardship of citizens of the Métis Nation Columbia River Society, as well as the many Indigenous families who call this land home.

Just a reminder to give your children a calm and understanding space afterschool now that kindergarten is full time.

Some helpful tips:
-come with healthy snacks (bonus if it is crunchy or something they can suck like a smoothie or fruit pack)
-don't ask too many questions, just be present.
-enjoy nature, walk or bike ride home
-no screens right after school
-don't say "no" right away, use phrases "let's have a snack and see how we feel" or "let's discuss at home" aka buy some time to get them regulated before you say no.
-don't take it personally if you get a backpack thrown at your head (in front of 50 parents!), talk about the incident later when they are regulated.
