Weather and Fire Behaviour

Cool, wet weather and slack winds are helping to decrease fire behaviour across the region.
While underlying drought conditions persist in heavier fuels, the recent rainfall has helped to dampen fine fuels, reducing the probability of rapid spread.

Operations

On the south flank of the fire, crews continue mop up operations, extinguishing activity 50 feet within the perimeter where heat remains.
Crews are also mopping up on the northwestern flank, bolstering the work that has been done east of the Gaspard-Churn FSR and over the northern tip of the fire, tying into the Churn Creek drainage.
Mop-up is the final, labour-intensive stage of wildland fire suppression where firefighters physically extinguish or remove smoldering materials near the fire's perimeter. Check out this video from 2024 to learn more about the importance of thorough mop up.
This work is being completed by hand crews supported by heavy equipment and water delivery systems so we are well positioned to suppress any flare ups should they occur.
Drone scanning may be used to support the safe identification of remaining hot spots.

Heads up Bralorne.

Work on the sewer tie-in in Bralorne Townsite 2 will take place on September 1 and 2, 2026.

Work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Crews will be excavating across the end of Lorne Street, below the ball park. During the work, access to the Noel Forest Service Road and access to Whiting Avenue from Lorne Street will be temporarily disrupted.

Residents and visitors are asked to use caution around the work area, follow posted signs and directions from crews, and allow extra time when travelling through the area.

Weather and Fire Behaviour

Today cooler temperatures and higher relatives humidities persist across the area, helping to dampen existing fire activity. There is potential for thunderstorms that could bring high winds and precipitation, although amounts may be limited.
This pattern is forecast to continue into tomorrow, supporting our efforts with decreased fire behaviour. This allows our crews to more directly suppress active fire along the perimeter.

Operations:

Crews continue their work along the southeastern flank, mopping up where ignition operations were completed to secure this area and prevent further growth to the southeast.
With decreased risk of additional spread to the south and southeast, structure protection resources can now be demobilized in this area.
On the northwestern flank of the fire, crews are working directly along the perimeter of the fire to extinguish heat and prevent spread into unburned vegetation. They are prioritizing the protection of infrastructure in the area, including bridges.
This work is being completed by hand crews supported by heavy equipment and t water delivery systems so we are well positioned to suppress any flare ups should they occur.

This is a bit confusing, however the Cariboo Regional District has done a partial lift of evacuation alert on the Bonanza Creek Fire. You can see that portion…it is labeled Bonanza Creek Fire Area Evacuation Alert - Partial lift.

The Cariboo Regional District has PARTIALLY LIFTED the Evacuation Alert for the western portion of the Bonanza Creek Fire Area.

An Evacuation Alert remains in place for the eastern portion of the previous Alert area.

B.C.’s new Outdoor Recreation Strategy says we’ve reached “a critical moment for outdoor recreation.” We agree.

The strategy recognizes some of the big shifts already underway: growing use, rising costs, climate impacts, increasing pressure on volunteer organizations, and changes in the forest sector that are putting recreation access at risk. It also acknowledges that volunteer-run recreation groups are increasingly managing work that has become far more complex than many were ever set up to handle.

That recognition matters. But a strong strategy will ultimately be judged by what happens next.

B.C. doesn’t just need more outdoor recreation opportunities. We need an outdoor recreation system built for the realities we face today, and for the decades ahead.

ORCBC will work to help turn the strategy into action: advocating for sustained investment, clearer responsibilities, better coordination across government, secure access to outdoor recreation, and meaningful support for the organizations and volunteers who make outdoor recreation possible across B.C.

Weather and Fire Behaviour

Warming and drying conditions on Monday and Tuesday have mitigated the effects of the rain that fell over the weekend.
Yesterday, increased fire behaviour was observed on the south flank, where the fire is burning at high elevations on steep slopes. Wind from the south is limiting southward spread.
An incoming system is expected to bring cooler and more humid conditions tomorrow but could cause stronger gusts this evening, as it moves into the area.

Operations:
Crews are mopping up along the control line that has been established in the north into Churn Creek.
Heavy equipment is being used to establish guard along the southwest and north flanks.
Structure protection personnel continue to test and maintain structure protection systems that have been set up.
