Clothing, books, photos, furniture, everyday objects. After a loss, belongings can become so much more than “stuff.” They can hold memory, connection, comfort, pain, responsibility, and complicated questions about what it means to stay connected after someone dies.

Our coordinator April recently had the privilege of presenting at the annual Palliative Care Conference in Carman, where she shared her expertise in end-of-life care as a Death Doula.

End of life doulas commonly support individuals in the final stages of life offering presence, comfort, and guidance during this time. However, our role is not limited to the last days or weeks.

We also work with people at any age or stage of life. This can include supporting those who wish to engage in advance planning, helping individuals and those important to them prepare for future decisions, and offering space to explore thoughts and feelings around death and dying.

A significant part of our role is to support those caring for someone who is approaching end of life.

There is not a single ‘right’ time to reach out, only a time that feels right for you, however it is generally best to get in touch earlier rather than later. This allows time for your support to get to know you, understand your priorities and the life you've lived, without pressure or urgency.
