Today Ambassador Halldórsdóttir had the honour of being recognized in the Senate of Canada - Sénat du Canada as Iceland's new Ambassador to Canada. This recognition was made possible by Senator Marilou McPhedran (Manitoba).

Senator McPhedran is a long-time friend of Iceland's on Parliament Hill and will soon be retiring from her parliamentary role. On top of all the well-wishes she has received in recent weeks as he prepares for the end of her tenure, our embassy would like to add our sincere thanks for her dedication and efforts towards building Iceland-Canada relations over the years.

In particular, this includes her leadership in co-creating the Iceland-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, and her significant engagement on the gender equality and women's leadership file. The latter includes attending several iterations of the Reykjavík Global Summit.

We wish Senator McPhedran all the very best as she moves on to her next chapter off of Parliament Hill, and we hope to see her in Iceland again soon.

Left to right: Senator Rebecca Patterson (Ontario), Senator Flordeliz Osler (Manitoba), Senator Marilou McPhedran (Manitoba), Ambassador Auðbjörg Halldórsdóttir, Senator Rosa Galvez (Quebec), and Senator Nancy Karetek-Lindell (Nunavut).
