We’re accepting applications for Spring 2027 reforestation sites.

Our team provides trees and planting labour — you provide land and long‑term maintenance.

Please note: eligibility is site‑specific, and some locations may not qualify based on soil, vegetation, and overall ecological suitability.

If you manage land that could benefit from reforestation, we’d love to review your site.

Apply by emailing [email protected] or calling (204) 642‑7578 with:
• your quarter section/location
• potential planting acreage
• current land cover

We’ll schedule a site visit for eligible projects.

Limited availability remains for Spring 2027 reforestation — submit as soon as possible to see if you qualify.

Thanks to all the Technicians and Coordinators from the other Watershed Districts for coming out to EIWD and seeing what our piece of the world has to offer.

We stopped at many different project sites throughout the north and central interlake region for rotational grazing projects, water retention and wetland enhancement projects, shelterbelts and bufferstrips.

We also partnered up with Peguis Consultation & Special Projects Inc for some plant identification and medicine picking, Lake Wpg Research Consortium for a tour and demo aboard the M.V. Namao, and to top off the event we stopped into Oak Hammock Marsh for a facility tour and a canoe voyage through the marsh.

Thanks to the Manitoba Watersheds for their contribution to this event and for helping make it a success!

🌱 Prairie Restoration Success Story! ✨

We’re excited to share an early success story from a prairie restoration project! EIWD partnered with South Interlake Rockwood Agricultural Society to restore 5 acres of hayland to native prairie. Using a restoration technique that was new to EIWD, we were able to establish native species without tilling up the existing sod — helping us restore the prairie while minimizing soil disturbance.

The field was seeded in 2025, and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s developing! 🌾

As with any restoration project, there are a few challenges along the way. We’re keeping an eye on alfalfa and thistle, but so far, the native plants are winning!

During our recent visit, we identified:
🌿 Purple prairie clover
🌿 Big bluestem
🌿 Sorghastrum
🌿 Canada wild rye
🌿 Sloughgrass
🌿 Switchgrass
🌿 Blue grama
🌿 Little bluestem

Looking ahead, we’ll be fall-sowing native wildflowers in areas where thistles are present to help fill the ecological niche and increase plant diversity.

A big thank you to South Interlake Rockwood Agricultural Society for partnering with us on this project and helping bring native prairie back to the landscape!

This project was made possible through funding from GROW Manitoba Habitat Conservancy. 🌱

EIWD had so much fun participating in the Íslendingadagurinn parade! We were promoting our tree planting projects 🌳 by towing our tree planter and handing out candy (of course)! 🍭

If you missed us, you can find us this weekend at the Arborg Street Festival!
