Summer isn’t over yet! There’s still plenty of time for safe water activities. If you’ll be paddleboarding soon, keep these tips in mind:

🦺 Always wear a PFD or lifejacket. Make sure your PFD fits properly and is approved by Transport Canada.
🏄🏻 Ensure your paddleboard has a leash. If you fall in, it will prevent the board from drifting away and leaving you stranded in open water.
🌦️ Check the weather and tides before you go out on the water.
🚫 Avoid substances. Alcohol and other substances severely impair your judgement and reaction time, increasing the risk of drowning.

We put our Pay it forward life jacket clinic on hold this year but we were happy to still be able to donate a few locally to The Holy Cow Canoe rental company out of Prospect Park in Acton.

They see a lot of people come with their own boats and boards without the proper lifesaving equipment on them. Now the company has some extras to lend out, helping keep people safe while they enjoy the water. 💦 Town of Halton Hills

We’re on a mission to help students get from school to the pool to participate in our Swim to Survive program and learn lifesaving skills. Rising transportation costs are making it difficult for some students, but so far, with your generous support, we’ve raised $2125! That’s enough for 177 bus rides. Thank you! If you’d like to help a child get on a bus and give them the opportunity to participate, donate here: https://ow.ly/bAVF50ZmrRI

The Society recently published a new safety standard on personal electronic devices for aquatic staff. This standard outlines best practices for guards who are on or off rotation. We encourage you to read and implement the standard at your facility: https://ow.ly/YWaH50ZoBEw

Drowning is fast and silent. Children can drown in seconds.
Keep your child safe by:

✅ Staying within arm’s reach of young children near water.
✅ Don’t assume someone else is watching.
✅ Put your phone away and avoid distractions.
✅ Take turns being the water watcher.

19% of fatal drownings in Ontario were related to boating. If you’re hitting the water this summer, prepare for a safe boating experience by:
✔️ Having your boating license
✔️ Ensuring everyone’s wearing a lifejacket
✔️ Staying sober while on the water
✔️ Checking the weather frequently
