June is PTSD Awareness Month

Every day, our fire fighters answer the call when our community needs help most and run into situations that most people will never experience firsthand.

While serving the residents of Halton Hills is a privilege, repeated exposure to trauma can have lasting impacts on mental health. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and operational stress injuries are realities faced by many first responders across Canada.

This month, we are helping raise awareness about PTSD and reminding our community that mental health is just as important as physical health. Seeking support is a sign of strength, and early conversations can make a difference.

To our members, fellow first responders, and anyone living with PTSD or other mental health challenges: you are not alone.

💬 We want to hear from our community: What does supporting mental health look like to you? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Your message may help someone who is struggling know they are not alone.

📢 Help us spread awareness by sharing this post to your story and tagging someone who has made a positive impact on your mental health journey.

Together, we can reduce stigma, encourage understanding, and support those who serve and those who struggle.

💙 Wear teal.
💙 Start a conversation.
💙 Check in on a friend.
💙 Support mental health awareness. Know someone who is struggling or struggling yourself. Call or Text 988. Reach out to Peer support. 🚒 Find a Trauma Informed Therapist.

🚨 Seconds matter in a fire. Does your family know what to do? 🚨In a real fire, you may have less than 3 minutes to safely escape your home. When the smoke alarm sounds, there is no time to plan—you need to already have a plan.
The Halton Hills Professional Fire Fighters Association urges every household in our community to sit down together and create a Home Fire Escape Plan.
Here is how to get started:
Map it out: Sketch a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of every room (doors and windows).
Pick a meeting spot: Choose a safe, permanent location outside—like a specific tree, light pole, or mailbox—at a safe distance from your home.
Practice, practice, practice: Hold a home fire drill at least twice a year. Practice during the day and at night to ensure everyone knows the escape routes in the dark.
Test your alarms: Ensure all smoke alarms are working and everyone recognizes the sound.
Don’t wait for an emergency to realize you’re unprepared. Your preparation today could save a life tomorrow. Stay safe, Halton Hills! 🚒💨

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Why this Matters? Every shift, our fire fighters face traumatic incidents, life and death decisions, and emotional weight that most people never experience. Over a career, repeated exposure takes a profound toll. Research shows fire fighter PTSD rates are much higher than the general public, yet many suffer in silence due to the stigma. Please help us as we work to break the stigma. Ongoing community support, access to mental health resources, and breaking the stigma are not optional - they are essential. Check in, Reach out, Speak up.
