We are a registered non-profit charitable society. Our goal is to preserve, promote and share Pender Harbour's unique heritage through community projects and events. We are responsible for the annual April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge, Pender Harbour Days in July (in partnership with the Pender Harbour & District Chamber of Commerce), the "Women of Pender Harbour" women's history book (published 2

010), and Pender Harbour Living Heritage Centre, featuring the Sarah Wray Heritage Hall (on the site of the old Irvine's Landing School by Hotel Lake) and the John Salisbury Workshop. Our long term goal is to build a Living Heritage Centre in which historical artefacts from the Mackay collection are displayed alongside a boatbuilding facility in which traditional and contemporary techniques are practiced. Until that goal can be reached, the Society offers boatbuilding classes in conjunction with the Pender Harbour Community School, hosts lectures on historical and maritime subjects, and participates in heritage projects in the Harbour.

Does anyone have the 1961 or 1962 yearbooks for Madeira Park Elementary? We do not have a copy in our collection and a former student would like to see it to remember their teacher Julie Brown.

If you have a yearbook we could photograph or any information about Ms. Brown, please let us know!

Today, Saturday, May 23 at Sarah Wray Hall, starting at 11 am, we open the kalpalin Pender Harbour portion of the coastwide Early Japanese-Canadian History exhibit. Frank Nakashima will be speaking and sharing stories of his childhood living here before 1942, and his experiences afterwards.

Look who dropped by!

Tomorrow Frank Nakashima will be giving a talk at the opening of Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society's new exhibit. He is an amazing storyteller! Visit Sarah Wray Hall for the opening to hear his family's story and those of the other local Japanese Canadians that lived in kalpilin Pender Harbour.

Getting ready for May 23 at Sarah Wray Hall, the launch of the Pender Harbour portion of the coastwide Japanese Canadian History exhibit with Sunshine Coast Museum & Archives and Egmont Heritage Centre.

It's been a busy day of measuring, leveling, and delicately placing various family items and the many, many information panels our dedicated and brilliant volunteers have researched, written, and designed over the past many months to honour the Japanese Canadians that lived, fished, and logged in kalpilin Pender Harbour, including stories of the Ikeda, Kayahara, Kawasaki, and Nakashima families, who lived here before 1942.
