Little homesteaders
We started off with a viewing of the eggs which will hatch soon, then a little lesson on safe chick handling. We got our beans ready for planting and learned about the many stages of growing plants. The parents and children were quite involved making it a very successful program! We are looking forward to next week!

🐣 Egg Incubation Update – Day 15!🐣

Our eggs are now at Day 15 of incubation, which means we are officially two-thirds of the way through the hatching process!

At this stage, the chicks inside the eggs have grown tremendously. They now have developed beaks, wings, legs, and feathers, and are beginning to look very much like the baby chicks they will soon become. When we candle the eggs, most of the egg appears dark because the growing chick is taking up more and more space inside.

Over the next week, the chicks will continue growing rapidly and begin moving into their hatching positions. Around Day 18, we will stop turning the eggs and increase the humidity in the incubator. This stage is called "lockdown" and helps prepare the chicks for hatching.

If all goes according to plan, we may begin to hear tiny peeps and see the first cracks in the shells around June 7–8. After that, our chicks will begin the exciting process of hatching!

The children have been enjoying learning about the incubation process. We can't wait to share the next stage of our journey with you! 🐥💛
