Our Rotary Club will not be hosting debates for this municipal election. We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to attend the debates being hosted by our Chamber of Commerce. Many thanks to everyone helping to organize these important events.

This Wednesday, September 16th 2026 our club welcomes two local guests to share their experience with the national charity Honouring Indigenous Peoples (HIP) and their flagship Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) program - a Rotary affiliate.

Community members who would like to learn more are invited to join us. All we ask is for a small donation to support local programs like Y2Y. Donations of $10 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt. PM for details. Interested students are free to attend!

Y2Y brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth from across Canada to explore the links between truth, reconciliation, and environment.

Our first guest is local student Kai Lach of Gananoque Secondary School - UCDSB. Kai was accepted for HIP’s 2025 Y2Y gathering at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS on the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq, Annapolis First Nation. Kai will give a short presentation and speak about the personal impact Y2Y has had on their life.

Our second guest is Rene Melchers, Rotary District 7040’s Program Coordinator for the HIP Y2Y team and a member of Brockville Rotary, the club that sponsored Kai. Rene serves our Rotary region that covers Nunavut, Quebec, Ontario and Northern NY State., coordinating the selection of 4 youth for Y2Y each year, including 2 students from Indigenous communities in the northernmost part of our district.

Every year HIP hosts Y2Y Gatherings that focus on building National Unity - one relationship, one community, one future at a time. Kai is the second GSS student to attend Y2Y, following our club sponsorship of Kaia McGuire who attended Y2Y in 2024 at Zajac Ranch near Mission, BC, and the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler.
