Feed the Lions - Public Page Feed the Lions is the student hunger program at Leo Hayes High School. There are many students in our schools who do not have access to enough food.

Food security is a major issue in many parts of the world and Fredericton is no exception. The Feed the Lions program has been a part of the fabric of Leo Hayes High School for several years, thanks to the ongoing support of the Fredericton Community Kitchen, who provides lunches daily to our students as well as several other Fredericton-area schools. The pandemic forced us to take a hard look at

the needs in our school. During the shutdown, Feed the Lions (with the amazing support of LHHS staff and friends) made weekly deliveries to the families of the students who had been accessing our breakfast and lunch programs. When school reopened, we expanded our backpack program, which allows students to take nonperishable food, toiletries and other items home. This program is still very popular with our students. We have also expanded our programs within the school beyond our Feed the Lions room, located in the library. Food can be accessed in the Leo Hayes' Learning Center, as well as some teachers' classrooms. The goal is to make it as easy and natural as possible to get food to the students who need it. We appreciate the community support that has allowed us to continue what we do and expand on the services needed. No one should have to worry about when they might eat next.

Kids learn better with full bellies! This year, every student will have access to a healthy, affordable pay-what-you-can lunch program in their school. Lunches will cost just $4 for students in grades K-8 and $5 for high school students. Extra support is available for families who need it.

Schools will be sending all families information packages specific to their lunch programs in a few weeks.

These past few days have been amazing as we watch the outpouring of community support for the Sara Holyoke Memorial Pay Yellow Golf Classic. Feed the Lions appreciates having been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of moneys raised at this event. Sara Holyoke supported Feed the Lions in countless ways over the years and we are honoured to be a part of her legacy. I wanted to share the success of the Lunchbox Challenge. The Nashwaaksis Y Service Club provided 50 lunch boxes, giving participants the opportunity to sponsor a lunchbox for $100 each. We are thrilled to report that all 50 lunch boxes were sold with Modern Electric purchasing 44 lunch boxes! It is truly inspiring to see such generosity and community support. Thank you so much to the Nashwaaksis Y Service Club, Modern Electric, Delta Hotels by Marriott Fredericton and everyone who made the Lunchbox Challenge a huge success!

With the school year coming to an end, we would like to take a moment to thank all of the incredible donors we have had throughout the year who have gone above and beyond with their support.
