Ten impaired drivers caught within 36 hours

As the Fredericton Police Force wraps up its MADD Canada 12 Days of Impaired Awareness Campaign, officers are reminding motorists about the serious and ongoing risk impaired driving poses to everyone on the road after a busy weekend of enforcement activity.

Officers stopped and charged 10 impaired drivers within just 36 hours between Friday, Dec. 19, and Sunday morning, Dec. 21st. Of these, two were drug-related impairments confirmed through Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) testing, six were alcohol-related, and two drivers received seven-day licence suspensions.

Five of the 10 drivers were charged during the day shift on Friday alone, a reminder that impaired driving occurs at any time of day or week.

To date in 2025, police received 180 reports of impaired driving and have issued 72 suspensions. In December, 24 drivers were charged, and four suspensions issued.

Many of the weekend’s incidents were initially reported by members of the public, whose quick actions allowed officers to intervene before a tragedy occurred.

The Fredericton Police Force thanks the community for its ongoing support and urges residents to call 911 immediately to report suspected impaired drivers.

Timely reporting gives officers the best chance to intercept dangerous drivers before someone is hurt.

What to do if you suspect an impaired driver:

• Call 911 immediately. If you are driving, pull over first only if it is safe to do so.
• Provide your location.
• Give a description of the vehicle, including licence plate number, colour, make and model.
• State the direction of travel of the vehicle.
• If possible, provide a description of the driver.

The Fredericton Police Force also extends sincere thanks to NB Justice and Public Safety Officers and supportive organizations such as MADD Canada for their continued dedication to raising awareness and keeping roads safe.

As the holiday season continues, the Fredericton Police Force wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday. Please plan ahead, drive sober, and help ensure everyone gets home safely.

Kicking off the Holiday Season with Safety in Mind! 🚨🚔🚑

Today MADD Fredericton volunteers teamed up with the Fredericton Police Force, RCMP, Ambulance NB, and the Fredericton Fire Department for a Project Red Ribbon checkpoint.

The goal of the checkpoint was to raise awareness and educate drivers and passengers about the serious and often devastating impacts of impaired driving, whether caused by alcohol or drugs.

A huge thank-you to everyone who stopped by, showed support, and committed to keeping our roads safe this holiday season. Together, we can help save lives!

🎀 MADD Fredericton Chapter Launches Project Red Ribbon 🎀

Today, the MADD Fredericton Chapter officially kicked off Project Red Ribbon in front of Fredericton City Hall. We were honored to have Mayor Kate Rogers, Fredericton Police Force, Royal Canadian Mounted Police in New Brunswick,NB Department of Justice and Public Safety, , and dedicated MADD volunteers join us for the launch.

What is MADD Canada’s Project Red Ribbon?

Project Red Ribbon is a national awareness campaign focused on preventing impaired driving—whether caused by alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs—during one of the busiest and most dangerous times of the year.

From November 1st to January 5th, volunteers, first responders, and community partners across Canada will distribute MADD’s iconic red ribbons and car decals. These symbols act as visible reminders to:

Plan ahead for a sober ride
Celebrate responsibly
Honor those who have been killed or injured by impaired driving

Whether you’re hosting a gathering, heading to a holiday event, or simply out running errands, we encourage everyone to make a personal commitment to sober driving. Tie a red ribbon to your vehicle, bag, or keychain to show your support and help spread the message that impaired driving is 100% preventable.

Let’s work together to protect our community and make this holiday season safe for all

On Saturday, November 30th, Chapter members alongside The NB Department of Justice and Public Safety (JPS) participated in the annual Fredericton Santa Clause Parade.

The parade was a success and a great way to kick off the holiday season to raise an awareness about the impacts of impaired driving.

This could not have been accomplished without the help of Sunbury Towing!

The City of Fredericton Government and the Fredericton Police Force, alongside our public safety partners from Royal Canadian Mounted Police in New Brunswick, Ambulance New Brunswick and the Department of Justice and Public Safety, are pleased to partner with MADD Greater Fredericton in support of MADD Canada's Project Red Ribbon Campaign.

Fredericton joins the rest of the country in this campaign, and we hope this serves as a constant reminder of the importance of impaired driving awareness.

Impaired driving affects us all. Today, impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death in Canada. Make the right choice this holiday season, don't drive impaired and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Together, we can make a difference.
