THE STUMPERY!

It's been quite a year at the Fredericton Botanic Garden and we're delighted by all the positive feedback on the hard work that has gone into new installations, refreshes, and general improvements. What we didn't expect was that The Stumpery would become the talk of the town.

The Stumpery was created by Eldon Toner and Matt Furlotte, who got creative , while removing diseased ash trees. Eldon playfully suggested that the trees be replanted, upside down, and the result is the most talked about feature (and frequently used "selfie site") in the Garden!

If you haven't already done so, come visit The Stumpery, and check back frequently, as it's sure to continue evolving.

A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME...is probably not nearly as difficult to remove. We are so incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Fredericton North, for their ongoing efforts to remove the highly invasive multiflora rose, from the Fredericton Botanic Garden.

This dedicated and determined crew has held multiple multiflora massacres at the Garden, and it appears their enthusiasm knows no bounds. They concluded this week's efforts with a chili luncheon, on the terrace of our Resource Centre. It was a beautiful day for a herculean effort and it's a pretty safe bet to say they all slept well, last night!

This is by no means the first time the Rotary Club of Fredericton North has engaged with the Fredericton Botanic Garden. Their financial support and encouragement were instrumental in the successful establishment of our Food Forest.

This group of Rotarians truly embraces Service before Self.

If you are looking for a quiet place to reflect on National Truth and Reconciliation Day, may we suggest the Fredericton Botanic Garden? Although our Resource Centre will be closed, the Garden is open dawn until dusk, and all are welcome.

When we walk through the Fredericton Botanic Garden, it’s easy to notice the flowers in bloom, the carefully tended beds, and the beauty all around us. What we don’t always see are the countless hours of hard work that make that beauty possible.

Throughout the season, our students are behind so much of what you see. From planting, watering and weeding to pruning, maintaining and taking on the many everyday tasks that keep the Garden thriving, they bring incredible energy, care and dedication to everything they do.

Just as we sometimes admire the flowers without noticing the fallen leaves beneath them, it can be easy to enjoy a beautiful garden without seeing all the work behind it. Today, we want to make sure that work is seen. 🌱

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible students for the time, effort and care they have poured into the Garden this season. The Garden simply wouldn’t be what it is without the people who care for it. Thank you for helping it grow. 💚
