New Brunswick Salmon Council We are presently comprised of and represent 29 affiliated local watershed conservation organizations from all parts of NB. schools.

The New Brunswick Salmon Council (NBSC) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization, dedicated to protecting wild Atlantic salmon and supporting restoration and enhancement activity on all watersheds in New Brunswick (NB), Canada. The work of the NBSC and our affiliates is carried out by hundreds of proud volunteers, who freely dedicate thousands of hours each year to preserve and protect the spe

cies. The NBSC, ASF,and our affiliates work together to protect wild Atlantic salmon and their precious freshwater and marine environments. In general, the community watershed organizations focus on individual watershed issues and concerns, the NBSC addresses provincial concerns, and the ASF deals with wider multi-regional and international issues. For many, the wild Atlantic Salmon is a symbol of our provincial heritage as it prominently crowns the provincial coat of arms. The wild Atlantic Salmon is widely recognized as an indicator species of the health of our marine and freshwater environments. The NBSC and our member organizations conduct scientific research and promote education and public awareness programs. We support youth environmental education, including delivering the Fish Friends program, developed by ASF, to 100 N.B. Elementary school students learn conservation first hand in the class room by raising eggs to young salmon and then releasing them into local rivers. Affiliate Organizations of NBSC:

One way to catch more trout is by learning the bugs!

You don't need to memorize every bug and their Latin names, but every fly angler should know these 4 major aquatic insect groups:

Mayflies
Slender nymphs, upright-winged adults, and the backbone of classic dry fly fishing. When trout are rising aggressively, mayflies are often the culprit.

Caddisflies
Worm-like larvae and tent-winged adults. Caddis can be a huge food source, especially when fish are chasing movement in the drift or reacting to skittering adults.

Stoneflies
Sturdy nymphs that live in cold, clean, moving water. They're a major meal for trout, especially in rocky riffles and faster runs.

Midges
Tiny, year-round food. They're easy to miss, but trout don't overlook them, especially in colder months and slower water.

Trout will tell you what they want if you slow down and pay attention.
