White Ribbon Fredericton

White Ribbon Fredericton White Ribbon Fredericton is working to end men's violence against women and all gender-based violence. White Ribbon started in Canada in 1991.

We promote gender equity, healthy relationships, and a new vision of masculinity. White Ribbon’s vision is for a masculinity that embodies the best qualities of being human. We believe that men are part of the solution and part of a future that is safe and equitable for all people. Since then, White Ribbon has spread to over 60 countries around the world. Our committee members and volunteers are d

edicated to promoting these values and responsibilities in our community. Our committee meets on a regular basis to discuss the issue of gender violence and to plan new ways to involve the general population in this issue. Our goal is to promote a safe community for everyone and challenge unhealthy attributes of masculinity while embracing the healthy ones. White Ribbon Fredericton was formed in May 2013 by a group of individuals from many walks of life who are passionate about engaging the community to end violence against women, promote equality, and challenge unhealthy gender norms. We value equality between all genders. This includes, but is not limited to, women’s rights to safety and full participation in all aspects of society. We also support women’s rights to make choices affecting her body. We support equal access to education, healthcare, as well as employment opportunities

So far we have:
- Made presentations at the local high schools
- Participated in the candlelit vigil for the victims of the Montreal massacre
- Hosted White Ribbon marches in Downtown Fredericton annually
-Appeared in various articles, radio shows, and television segments
- Started the R.E.A.L. Man series of Lunch and Learn sessions
- Engaged the community to end violence against women
- Partnered with other community groups who share the same goal for change
-Participated as the official "Jack Show" charity

The month of May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month in New Brunswick. This month, we recognize the connections between intimate partner violence and sexual violence, and the ever-growing need to end violence against women.

If you or someone you know has been impacted by sexual violence it is important to remember that it is never your fault and that there are resources in the province.

Last month we hosted our panel discussion on The Gendered Arena: Masculinity, competition, and violence across sports, and we had an incredible turnout!

We want to thank everyone who attended and allowed us to have such a rich discussion with our panelists. Our audience and panelists provided so many wonderful questions and opinions on all areas of sport.

A special thank you goes out to all our panelists; Dr. Kristi Allain, Beth Lyons, Curtis Lauzon, and Kendra Patrick.

We can’t wait for our next event!
