“There’s something deeply meaningful about touring across Canada, not just the major cities, but the places in between. The smaller towns, the secondary highways, the rooms where live music feels personal and essential. Those are often the shows that stay with you.

This new duo tour is a chance to reconnect with audiences in a really direct way, performing a collection of songs that reach into some deeper corners of the catalogue alongside the familiar ones. We’ll begin in Saskatoon and make our way east through Northern Ontario and into Atlantic Canada, playing some beautiful communities that don’t always end up on a tour schedule.

Canada is vast, complicated, generous, and endlessly inspiring. Being on the road means I get to experience a special kind of exchange with every city and town we visit. Checking into a local hotel, having lunch at the pub before load-in and then singing my face off later that evening. I can’t wait to be out there again and to share my songs coastward with you.”

Mama's Broke is coming to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre this Friday!! May 29 at 7:30 PM with Creekbed Carter Hogan 🎶

Mama's Broke is a powerful duo that came together on the road, which continues to shape their unique gritty style. Theircomplimentary voices blend to create haunting harmonies, while they artfully juggle an array of instruments including fiddle, banjo, guitar and mandolin. Original songwriting combined with folk traditions create a compelling performance, delivered with heart and raw energy.

Tickets on sale now for Spencer Krug's Solo Piano Tour at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre on October 2!

After fifteen years of writing and performing with projects like Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Swan Lake, and Frog eyes, this prolific artist has decided to release and tour the music he makes under his own name - Spencer Krug. First gaining attention in the mid 2000s as co-leader of Montreal's rock’n’roll Wolf Parade, then soon after as the voice and mind behind the chaotic Sunset Rubdown, Krug eventually used the now defunct Moonface as an outlet for his more experimental and sporadic solo material. And while he still plays with both Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, there remains in him a need to express something less rock-oriented, something more quiet and introverted. So, returning to his first and favorite instrument, the piano, Krug has ventured back into his own fantastic world of pseudo-classical balladeering; poetic lyricism laced with twisted pop sensibility and jazz mimicry. Using this template, he now releases solo work on his own label, Pronounced Kroog, and tours a variety of new and old material as Spencer Krug.

As the Canadian musician behind Sunset Rubdown and Moonface, co-frontman of Wolf Parade, songwriting member of Swan Lake, and keyboardist for Frog Eyes and Fifths of Seven, Spencer Krug has been a major player on over twenty-five releases within the past two decades. He currently writes and releases music under his own name, and performs a mix of new and old material on stage.

ANNOUNCING! 🎶 David Francey presented by Shivering Songs at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre September 29

David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter, who has become known as “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star). Born in Ayrshire, Scotland to parents who were factory workers, he moved to Canada when he was twelve. For decades, he worked across Canada in rail yards, construction sites, and in the Yukon bush, all the while writing poetry, setting it to melodies in his head and singing it to himself as he worked.

A truly authentic folk singer, Francey is a documentarian of the working person who never imagined earning a living from his music. But when he was in his 40s, his wife, artist Beth Girdler, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant. His first album Torn Screen Door came out in 1999 and was a hit in Canada.

Throughout his distinguished career, Donovan Woods has built a devoted following who cling to the acclaimed songwriter’s every word. Never one to mince words, Woods is one of music’s most vulnerable storytellers and on his latest album, Donovan takes that a step further. Honest and unflinching, on Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now, his seventh studio album released in 2024, Woods takes a long look inside and isn’t necessarily thrilled with what he sees. For an artist who isn’t afraid to bear his soul, this is as emotionally gritty as he has ever been.
