You have likely heard us over the past year promoting our Sensory Tent, but what is the CRMHAA Sensory Tent?
The CRMHAA Sensory Tent is a free, quiet space available at community events for anyone who may be feeling overwhelmed by noise, crowds, heat, lights, or the general hustle and bustle of a busy event.
Community events are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, but for some individuals, the sensory stimulation can become overwhelming and make it difficult to participate. Our Sensory Tent provides a calm place to step away, regroup, and recharge before returning to the event.
Inside the tent, visitors will find:
β’ Fidget and sensory items
β’ Grounding and calming activities
β’ Comfortable seating
β’ A quieter, lower-stimulation environment
The tent is open to anyone who may benefit from a sensory break, including individuals with autism, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, sensory processing differences, mental health challenges, or simply anyone needing a few moments of calm.
At CRMHAA, we believe accessibility doesn't stop at ramps and doorways. True accessibility means creating spaces where everyone can participate in community life in a way that feels safe, welcoming, and inclusive. The Sensory Tent is one small way we're helping make community events more accessible for everyone.
Our tent is staffed by team members who have completed Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and other mental health-related training and can help connect individuals with mental health supports, community resources, and information about services available through CRMHAA. While the Sensory Tent is not a crisis service, staff can help connect individuals to appropriate supports when needed.
This summer, you'll find our Sensory Tent at the Garrison Night Market, FiertΓ© Fredericton Pride, Canada Day Fredericton, and other community events throughout the Fredericton Capital Region!
If you see us out and about, stop by and say hello! We'd be happy to show you around and answer any questions about the tent and the supports we offer. π
