My name is Metok and I'm a Program Coordinator with ComIT, a Canadian non-profit charity that provides free, accessible training to help people build practical skills and pathways into employment, with a strong focus on working alongside Indigenous communities. Through community partnerships, we aim to deliver programming that is respectful, relevant, and responsive to local needs - supporting learners in building confidence with skills like financial literacy, digital tools, and career readiness.

Our goal is to create opportunities that are flexible, supportive, and grounded in real-life outcomes for participants and their communities.
Next month, we here at ComIT will be offering a free, virtual course - Intro to Personal Finance - as part of our Recoding Futures program, created specifically for Indigenous learners. The course focuses on building practical, everyday money management skills, while also introducing simple, beginner-friendly digital tools (including how AI can support financial decision-making).

I’ve shared more details below, and we’d be grateful if you could pass this along to anyone in your community or network who might be interested in joining.

Recoding Futures Program
✅ 1 month long (part-time) – 2 weekday evenings, 6 hours per week
✅ 100% online
✅ Live, instructor-led classes with peers
✅ Completely FREE!

Who Can Apply?
Self-identify as Indigenous (Status First Nations, non-status, Métis, Inuit)
15 years or older
Able to study part-time and commit to practicing outside of class
Have basic digital literacy skills
Have access to a computer/laptop
Course Options
🔹 Introduction to Personal Finances
Intro to Personal Finances is a 1-month course designed to help participants build practical money management skills. Students will learn the fundamentals of personal finance including inflation, interest rates, budgeting, debt management, and savings strategies such as RRSPs and TFSAs. The course also introduces simple bookkeeping techniques for tracking expenses, explores how AI can support financial decision-making, and teaches participants how to organize financial documents using tools like Google Docs.
Dates: May 26 to June 23, 2026
Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays
Time: 8:00 - 11:00pm ADT

🔹 Introduction to Programming
In this 1-month course you'll embark on a journey to learn the basics of communicating with computers through coding. You'll start by understanding the fundamental concepts of programming and then dive into learning a beginner-friendly languages like HTML/CSS and Javascript Throughout the course, you'll write your first lines of code, solve simple problems, and grasp essential concepts like variables, data types, making decisions, and repeating actions. By the end, you'll have a solid foundation in programming, ready to tackle small projects and continue your learning journey in the exciting world of coding.
Dates: July (TBD)
