Flower Springs Trail

Flower Springs Trail in Stone Mountain Provincial Park is one of those hikes that earns it — bog cranberries underfoot, three glacial moraines to roll over, and then suddenly: a lake appearing over the top of a hill like the land held it back just long enough.

📍 km 600 of the Alaska Highway, 144 km northwest of Fort Nelson

🥾 Moderately Easy | 10.2–13.6 km round trip | 4–5 hours

🌸 Best wildflowers: late June through July

🦌 Stone's Sheep and Caribou country

Hey Northeast BC trail community! 👋

We've just launched a brand new trail conditions survey!

Our trail network spans a massive area, from Fort Nelson all the way out to the Liard River Highway. That's a lot of ground for a small society to cover. So we thought: why not put eyes on the trails that are actually out there?

Whether your hike was absolutely epic, or you came across blowdown, garbage, or a washed-out section — we want to know.

Every report you send us shapes where our maintenance attention goes next.

🌊 Parker Lake Cleanup Success! 🌳

A huge thank you to everyone involved! We had 42 visitors join us throughout the day, and together we accomplished some fantastic improvements:

Dock Revamp: Re-levelled the dock and added fresh gravel to address the water levels.
Barricade Painting: A fresh coat of paint on the barricade, thanks to Francine W. and Deanne N.
Outhouse Makeover: Beautifully painted by Laura B.
Picnic Tables: A vibrant new look, painted by Shannon C. and Karla H.
Gravel Spreading: Smoothly handled by Angie W., Clint S., and the Olesky family.
Whipper Snipping: Thanks to Clint S. for keeping the trails tidy.
Paddle Rentals: Provided by Lynkyn Safety and Good Enug Contracting.
Educational Sessions: Bird information and plant identification led by Katherine W. from FNFN.
Fun Activities: Colouring pages and a scavenger hunt organized by Katherine W. from FNFN.
Stunning Murals: One mural is complete, with another nearing completion this week, thanks to France W. and Deanne N.
Rec Site Information Sharing: Great insights shared by Krista V. and Rahda A.
Equipment Support: Special thanks to Rick Siedal and crew for providing the Bobcat and garbage can, which made our cleanup efforts much easier.

Parker Lake Work Bee – June 14 ☀️

What an amazing job by everyone involved!

A huge thank you to all who came out and lent a hand today. We had the water activities up and running, paddle rentals in full swing, a great turnout from the community, and so many wonderful conversations throughout the day.

The murals are coming together beautifully and will be finished this week, so make sure to take a drive out and check them out!

Together, we accomplished so much:

* Cleaned out the fire pit
* Spread fresh gravel
* Collected survey feedback
* Painted the outhouse
* Gave the picnic tables a facelift

+ most importantly enjoyed our Rec Site!

The kids stayed busy with scavenger hunts, splashing in the water, and enjoying the paddle rentals, while everyone soaked up a beautiful day in the sunshine.

This was truly a community effort, and it shows what can be accomplished when people come together. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success! 💙

🌲 Community Challenge: Let’s Clean Up Together!

As you make your way to the Parker Lake Community Event—whether by quad, vehicle, bike, or on foot—we invite you to help make a difference.

Bring a garbage bag and, if you spot any litter along the roadsides or trails, take a few moments to pick it up and bring it with you. We’re fortunate that there has been very little garbage left at the recreation site itself, which is a huge win for our community. Let’s keep that momentum going by working together to care for the places we all enjoy.

A dumpster will be available on-site for easy disposal of collected garbage.

This event is all about bringing our community together, and small acts like these make a big impact. Let’s show some pride in our local trails, roads, and recreation areas and leave them better than we found them. 💚♻️

We are thrilled to announce that we are partnering with Rec Sites & Trails BC and the Fort Nelson community to make this day a success! This is exactly the kind of collaboration we've been working toward — and Parker Lake is the perfect place to kick it all off. 🙌

Parker Lake is one of Fort Nelson's most treasured spots, and after the fires, it's time to show it some love. Come spend the day with us — a little work, a lot of fun, and one of the best views around. 🏕️

🛶 FREE kayak, paddle board & canoe rentals — generously donated by Aimee Badine! Bring the whole family, lend a hand, and then get out on the water. All we're asking for is your helping hands and a great day together for everyone to enjoy.

On the to-do list:
🔥 Clean out the fire pit
🗑️ Pick up garbage (not much — already a win!)
🪵 Repair & repaint the outhouse and picnic table
🪓 Cut firewood donated by Harrison Dickie for future visitors
🧹 Shovel, rake & spruce up the whole site
🏕️ Put our community's stamp on this special place - We want to hear from you!

But it's bigger than a cleanup. The Town is in talks with Council about ownership of this rec site — and we want YOUR voice in that conversation. Come out, put your imaginative hat on, and tell us: what would you love to see happen with our little piece of paradise? What do YOU want to see on the trails in Northeast BC? This is your community — come out and have your say. We want to hear your ideas, your wishes, and your vision for the trails and wild spaces that make this region so special.

🦅 Learn about the Parker Lake Ecological Reserve! Parker Lake sits within a designated ecological reserve — one of BC's most important tools for protecting rare and sensitive ecosystems. Come out and learn about the incredible wildlife that has been documented right here in our backyard, what makes this area ecologically significant, and why protecting it matters now more than ever. This is your chance to connect with the nature that surrounds our community every single day.

Boulder Canyon is one of those hidden adventures along the Alaska Highway that feels completely untouched. Tucked inside Muncho Lake Provincial Park, this 4.6 km round trip hike winds through rocky creek beds, narrow canyon walls, small waterfalls, and rugged scrambling sections that make the journey just as exciting as the destination.

The trail follows a winding canyon where towering rock walls rise around you, leading hikers deeper into the valley with every turn. Expect uneven terrain, loose rock, and a few spots where you’ll need to climb around waterfalls or scramble up side slopes.

Best explored during low water season, Boulder Canyon is perfect for hikers looking for something a little different — wild, raw, and full of northern adventure.

As travellers make their way up the highway, this stretch near Muncho Lake is one you don’t just drive past—you experience it.

If you’re looking to stretch your legs and take it all in, a couple of our favourite must-see trails up north:

🥾 Stone Sheep Trail
A classic for a reason. This trail offers sweeping views over Muncho Lake’s turquoise water, with a good chance of spotting wildlife along the way. It’s a steady climb but manageable for families, and the payoff at the top is worth every step.

🌲 Boulder Canyon
Short, scenic, and perfect for all ages. Wander through forest and rock formations as the canyon narrows around you. It’s an easy adventure that still feels wild—ideal for getting the whole family outside without committing to a long day.

These are the kinds of trails that turn a road trip into something more. Pull over, take your time, and explore what’s right off the highway.

Tucked into the wild beauty of the Stone Mountain Provincial Park, the Summit Ridge Hike is one of those trails that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special.

Just 2 km past the park entrance sign, the trailhead is easy to find—but what lies ahead feels far from ordinary. This 4.5 km round-trip hike climbs steadily through subalpine forest before opening up to a stunning ridgeline. And that’s where it really delivers.
