McMurray Métis held our Annual District Gathering and proudly presented the 2025-2026 Annual Report to our Citizens.

As always, it was wonderful to come together as a Métis Nation, to reflect on the past year and celebrate how far we've come. Our Nation continues to rise, and gatherings like these remind us of the strength in unity.

Reports were given by District Captain Kelly Myers, Otipemisiwak Métis Government District 17 Citizens Representative Brooke Bramfield, Executive Director Don Scott, and Infinity Métis Corporation President and CEO, Shawn Myers, who reflected on the power in partnership.

Copies of the Annual Report are available to view on our website: https://mcmurraymetis.org/resources/

Celebrating Excellence in Indigenous Sport 🏅

McMurray Métis was proud to attend the 2026 Indigenous Sports Gallery Ceremony, where Indigenous athletes, coaches, volunteers, and community leaders from across the region were recognized for their outstanding contributions to sport and community.

The Indigenous Sports Gallery plays an important role in advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 87, which calls upon governments, in collaboration with Indigenous peoples, to support and celebrate Indigenous athletes, Indigenous athletic history, and Indigenous participation in sport. By recognizing Indigenous excellence and preserving these stories, the Sports Gallery helps ensure these achievements are honoured and remembered for generations to come.

We are especially proud to congratulate our citizens who were honoured this year:

🌟 Youth Athlete Award
• Declan Roberts
• Lainey Marchuk

These young athletes are devoted to sport, demonstrate admirable skill, and make a positive contribution to their community.

🌟 Community Builder Award
• Danny Hodgson
• Riel Webb

Through their leadership, mentorship, and commitment to sport, Danny and Riel have helped create opportunities for others to learn, grow, and thrive within our communities.

🌟 Local Legend Award
• Hector “Mickey” Demers (McMurray Métis)

This recognition honours Mickey's lasting impact on our community and his contributions to the development of sport. His legacy continues to inspire generations and serves as a reminder of the power of sport to bring people together.

Sport builds confidence, strengthens communities, and connects generations. We are proud to see our citizens recognized alongside so many outstanding Indigenous leaders and athletes who continue to make a positive difference throughout the region.

Please join us in congratulating Declan, Lainey, Danny, Riel, the family of Hector “Mickey” Demers, and all of this year's recipients on this well-deserved recognition. 👏 Read More: https://tinyurl.com/322vsduv
