We value our partnerships with industry as opportunities for meaningful dialogue and shared outcomes, not simply transactions.

Our recent tour of Canadian Natural Resources Limited Horizon site gave McMurray Métis Citizens an opportunity to see industrial development and environmental reclamation firsthand across our traditional territory.

Citizens toured the open pit, stood alongside some of the largest mining equipment in the world, and learned about the scale of operations at Horizon. The group also visited the compensation lake, seeing how industrial development and environmental work exist side by side within the same landscape.

Engagement like this allows our Citizens to ask questions, share Traditional Knowledge and lived perspectives, and better understand the changes taking place on the land. It also creates space for Métis voices to be part of the conversations shaping our region.

Thank you to the Citizens who joined us, and to Canadian Natural for welcoming McMurray Métis to Horizon and sharing both the operation and environmental work underway.

When engagement is grounded in mutual respect and a shared responsibility to the land, it strengthens relationships and creates a better path forward for everyone.

McMurray Métis Citizens can join us for Wellness Warriors to incorporate movement, connection, and well-being into their lives.

Whether you’re new to walking or already have a routine, all paces are welcome.

McMurray Métis will cover the $2 drop-in fee for Citizens.

Citizens aged 55+ receive free access to the indoor track anytime. The track is also stroller-friendly, so little ones are welcome to come along!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our September Citizens’ Meeting!

We were pleased to welcome Fort McMurray–Wood Buffalo MLA Tany Yao who shared regional updates and his support for the McMurray Métis Cultural Centre.

We also heard from District Council, our Citizens' Representative, Brooke Bramfield, Infinity Métis Corporation President and CEO, and Project Director for the Cultural Centre, Shawn Myers and operational reports from each of our department managers.

Our meetings are more than updates, they’re an opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, connect as a Nation, and help shape the work of our organization.

We shared a great meal from Northern Lights Lunches, and Citizens also went home with meat and fish to share with their families. Some lucky door prize winners took home grocery gift cards andnd tickets to the Oil Barons home opener.

Your artwork could be featured on the official 2026 McMurray Métis Christmas Card!

We’re inviting Citizens aged 14 and older to submit an original design inspired by sipîwiyiniwak, “We Are the River Métis,” celebrating Métis culture, Fort McMurray in winter and the Christmas season.

💰 Selected artist receives $500!
🎨 Submit up to two original designs (hand-drawn or digital).
📅 Deadline: Friday, October 30, 2026, at 4:30 PM.

Include two paragraphs explaining your design and its connection to the theme, along with your name, age, and contact information.

Today we honour the memories of more than 59 Missing and Murdered Loved Ones in the Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo area and on Treaty 8 territory, and over 1,200 Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

You’re invited to the Sisters in Spirit Day vigil on October 4

As we mark Sisters in Spirit Day, join us in honouring the memories of more than 59 Missing and Murdered Loved Ones in the Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo area and on Treaty 8 territory, and over 1,200 Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

All are welcome to gather and remember.
When: October 4, 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm (no registration required)
Where: Raphael Cree Boat Launch, Fort McMurray, AB

Here’s what to expect:

5:30 pm - Gathering and blessing of the meal (soup and bannock with tea and coffee)

6:00 pm - Welcoming remarks

6:30 pm - Guest speakers

7:00 pm - Candlelight vigil honouring loved ones with photos

Bannock & Jammer is a relaxed way to experience Métis culture through food, music, and gathering at our Kahkiyaw Gathering Place.

Our Elders are on the hunt! 😂🦌

Elders Tea is an afternoon of care, connection and culture, and this time, our Elders stepped into the role of hunters and harvesters!

From hunting games to making their own trail mix, there was plenty of fun, a little friendly competition and an opportunity to reconnect with land-based traditions deeply rooted in Métis culture.

Hunting and harvesting have always been an important part of Métis life, carrying knowledge, stories, food and traditions from one generation to the next. Creating opportunities for our Elders to experience and share these traditions helps keep that knowledge alive.

And based on these photos… we think our hunters had a pretty good day. 😂

They may have traded the trapline for a tea table, but the hunting spirit is still strong!
