Arts Council Wood Buffalo is sending waves of inspiration to our Executive Director, Liana Wheeldon; Partnerships Manager, Diane Din Ebongue; and Engagement Manager, Emma Carter, as the team attends the 2026 Creative City Summit in Calgary this week.

They've joined a colourful collection of more than 300 arts, culture, and creative sector leaders from across Canada to exchange knowledge, celebrate cultural initiatives, explore arts infrastructure, attend workshops, and so much more.

Arts Council Wood Buffalo will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🟧

ATC - Athabasca Tribal Council and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo have partnered for a Community Gathering and Walk on September 30, and it's open for all to join.

Tummies and hearts were both full at the Eat & Greet event on September 11. 🍽️ This was part of Welcoming Week led by YMCA of Northern Alberta - Wood Buffalo and the Local Immigration Partnership - Wood Buffalo.

From meaningful conversations to plenty of laughs, Eat & Greet was a great reminder of what can happen when we bring people together around a table. These opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and build relationships are what make our community brighter and stronger.

A special thank you to everyone who brought delicious dishes to share and participated throughout the evening. We also appreciate Councillor Ty Brandt RMWB Ward 1 for joining us and being part of the fun.

Art is for all, and that was proudly showcased at the Collective Threads community art exhibition which launched on September 3 at MacDonald Island Park. The launch was even more memorable as it aligned with the official proclamation of September as Arts Month in the Wood Buffalo region.

Deputy Mayor Ty Brandt was on hand to view the gallery and mark the proclamation surrounded by local artists, community members, and other enthusiasts and supporters.

Collective Threads came together through the combined creative talent of local artists from all ages, experience levels and backgrounds. With the goal of showcasing local perspectives and storytelling through a mixed and unique art collective.

The exhibition runs from September 3 to October 31 at the Community Art Gallery, second level of MacDonald Island Park, and is free for all to drop in and enjoy.

The lights will go up, the energy is building, and Wood Buffalo’s creative scene is ready to take centre stage. Arts Council Wood Buffalo is thrilled to announce the nominees for the 2026 Buffy Awards!

With 61 unique nominees across all discipline-specific award categories, the Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Award, presented by Wood Buffalo Media Group, is gearing up for a night of bold creativity, electric energy and artistic expression, celebrating with our ELECTRIC MIDNIGHT theme.⚡️

This year, we're turning up the volume with two newly combined categories:

🎸 Performing Arts Award
Dance Award + Performing Arts Award

🎨 Studio Arts Award
Craft Award + Media Arts Award + Visual Arts Award

Let us serve your dinner plans tonight!

Join us this evening as Eat & Greet community potluck brings people together to connect over delicious food and good company, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Golden Years Society.

Bring your favourite dish or come as you are and enjoy the festivities as guests enjoy potluck-style dishes from different cultures, live music, and fun opportunities to connect with community.

A kids' play area is available for little ones, thanks to the The Hub Family Resource Centre , so all ages can enjoy.

Eat & Greet is part of Welcoming Week, led by the YMCA of Northern Alberta - Wood Buffalo and the Local Immigration Partnership - Wood Buffalo
