Here’s a great opportunity to get more girls playing lacrosse!

OKAY ALBERTA… IT’S TIME TO GET WILD!

We’ve been working behind the scenes for months, and we can FINALLY tell you what WILD Lacrosse is all about.

And trust us… this is going to be FUN!

WILD Lacrosse is a brand-new ALA-approved RURAL GIRLS LACROSSE LEAGUE created specifically for girls living in rural Alberta outside the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council (GELC) and Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA) boundaries. There is no central location.

So we’ve decided to do something different.

Instead of saying, “Sorry, there aren't enough girls in your town for a team…”

We’re asking:
“What happens if we bring ALL of those girls together?”

Not a clinic. Not a tournament team. Not a once-a-year program.

A LEAGUE. FOR GIRLS. IN RURAL ALBERTA.

The Wood Buffalo Bison are incredibly proud to congratulate U13 Bison Amelia Savill on being selected by Sports Wood Buffalo as the recipient of the 2026 Indigenous Athlete of the Year Award!

Amelia has been a dedicated member of the Bison family for years. Her passion for lacrosse and continued growth as an athlete make this recognition so well deserved.

This past season, Amelia proudly represented the Bison on the floor and continued her lacrosse journey at the Alberta Indigenous Games, showcasing her love for the game and her community.

This post took a little while to write because Coach Drayden LaFramboise isn’t someone who seeks recognition or fanfare. But his generosity toward his team deserves to be acknowledged.

As someone who grew up playing lacrosse and continues to give back to the game as a non-parent coach, Drayden gives far more than just his time behind the bench. His commitment and genuine investment in these athletes does not go unnoticed.

We are incredibly grateful to have Coach Drayden as our U15 jersey sponsor this season. His support and his dedication to these players reaches far beyond the jersey they wear.

Congratulations Coach Bob!

The Wood Buffalo Bison are incredibly proud to congratulate Coach Bob Niven, who has been selected by the Sports Wood Buffalo Association as the recipient of the 2026 Sport Builder Award!

The Sport Builder Award honours an individual whose outstanding commitment and longstanding service has helped develop and sustain a club, organization, or sporting event. Creating a lasting positive impact on the growth of sport in our region.

The Faust siblings were busy adding a little more hardware to the collection this weekend while hitting the field with the Edmonton Razorbacks!

U11 Bison goalie Ranger Faust brought home silver with her team!

U15 Bison Connor Faust battled his way to a bronze medal with his team!

And we love seeing former Bison Maverick Faust back out there competing and bringing home silver! Former Bison… for now? Perhaps a return to the herd next season? 😉

We love seeing our Bison athletes stepping outside their comfort zones, trying a new sport, and continuing to compete all summer long. Way to represent and congrats on a great field weekend! 🦬 🥍

This past season, we unfortunately didn’t have enough players for a U17 Bison team. Our older athletes continue to find opportunities to play and stay connected to the sport they love..

We hope their commitment sends a message to other athletes in our community. There are passionate players here and hopefully this sparks enough interest to bring a U17 Wood Buffalo Bison team back to the floor next season!
