June is Men's Mental Health Month

Mental health matters for everyone. This month, let's encourage the men in our lives to speak openly, seek support when needed, and check in on one another. Strength isn't about carrying everything alone. It's about knowing when to reach out.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Connecting with a trusted friend, family member, Elder, healthcare provider, or community support service can be an important first step.

Indigenous History Month is a time to reflect, learn, and honour the stories, strength, and cultures of Indigenous Peoples across this land.

Long before borders and written records, Indigenous communities carried knowledge through oral teachings, ceremony, language, and connection to the land. Those teachings continue today through generations of resilience, culture, and community.

As we recognize Indigenous History Month, we encourage everyone to listen, learn, and walk forward with respect and understanding.

Every story matters. Every teaching matters. Every generation matters. 🧡

Today we're supporting the Moose Hide Campaign, a movement dedicated to ending violence against women and children and building safer, more respectful communities.

Wearing the moose hide is a reminder to stand up, speak out, and take action against all forms of gender-based violence. It also represents a commitment to healthy relationships, respect, and reconciliation.

Small actions can make a big difference. Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

Small actions matter. Real change starts with us.

This week, we celebrate the heart of healthcare at Tawâw Permanent Supportive Housing. 🤍

Nurses are often the quiet steady force in the middle of chaos, meeting people where they are with compassion, patience, advocacy, and care. In supportive housing, their role goes far beyond medical support. They build trust, walk alongside residents through difficult moments, celebrate progress, and help create stability, dignity, and connection every single day.

Thank you to our incredible nursing team for the care you provide, the relationships you build, and the strength you bring to our residents and staff. Your work changes lives in ways both seen and unseen.

Happy Nurses Week from all of us at Wood Buffalo Wellness Society!

đź’™ Today is Bear Witness Day đź’™

Today we honour the memory of Jordan River Anderson and stand with Indigenous children so that no child is ever left waiting for the care they need.

Bear Witness Day, led by the Bear Witness Day and the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society of Canada, is a reminder that Jordan’s Principle exists because children’s needs should always come first—no matter where they live.

💙 Jordan’s story
Jordan was a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation who needed medical care. Because of jurisdictional disputes between governments, he was kept in hospital for years unnecessarily. He passed away without ever spending a single day in a family home. His story led to Jordan’s Principle, which ensures Indigenous children can access the services they need—when they need them.

💙 What is Jordan’s Principle?
Jordan’s Principle ensures that Indigenous children in Canada receive timely access to all public services—health, education, and social supports—without delays caused by jurisdictional disputes.

💙 How to access Jordan’s Principle support:
If a child needs services or supports, you can apply directly through:
• Government of Canada (Indigenous Services Canada – Jordan’s Principle)
• Local First Nations band offices or health/education teams
• Jordan’s Principle service coordinators in your region

No child should be denied the care they need because of paperwork or jurisdiction.

đź’™ Today, we bear witness. We remember Jordan. And we continue the work so every Indigenous child has what they need to thrive.
