Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one year so these partnerships can create life‑changing experiences for both mentor and mentee.

Igniting the power of young people in Wood Buffalo through mentorship. 💙 Non-profit offering free programs for ages 6-18, including One-on-One, Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring. Our Bigs and Littles mentoring program pairs youth of all genders with caring Bigs who provide guidance, friendship, and a safe space to share the ups and downs of growing up; through regular outings and weekly time together (about two hours), Bigs and Littles build meaningful relationships grounded in trust, shared interests, and mutual respect, supported throughout by our dedicated caseworkers, and engage in activities like biking, playing sports, crafting, watching movies, or simply enjoying each other’s company. In addition to our One-on-One Mentoring, we offer several free group programs, including Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle Mentoring, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring.

Today is all about discovery, innovation, and opportunity!

We're proud to be partnering with Westwood High School Fort McMurray and Keyano for an amazing Big on STEM event that encourages students to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Living in a region built on innovation and driven by skilled professionals, STEM education opens doors to countless opportunities. Whether students think of working in technology, healthcare, engineering, environmental sciences, trades, or entrepreneurship, STEM helps provide the foundation to get there.

We're also excited to showcase the programs and opportunities available right here in our community. Our local schools and post-secondary institutions are helping prepare the next generation for meaningful futures, and we want more young people to see what's possible close to home.

A special thank you to Cenovus for funding this event and for their continued commitment to supporting youth, education, and community growth. We're grateful for their partnership and excited to work together to inspire future leaders.

Mentorship Monday Spotlight: Corporate Mentoring

Launched in 2017 with ConocoPhillips, our Corporate Mentoring Program connects Grade 7–9 students at Father R. Perin School in Janvier with real-world career experiences.

Through a mix of classroom learning and hands-on site visits, students explore career pathways, build leadership and workplace skills, learn about wellness and resilience, and connect directly with industry professionals.

These experiences help students build confidence, discover new possibilities and see what their future could look like beyond the classroom.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo! 🍂

Today, we’re taking a moment to be grateful for the incredible community that continues to show up for local kids and youth.

We’re thankful for our mentors who give their time and energy, our families who trust us to be part of their children’s journeys, our volunteers and supporters who help make our work possible, and the community partners who continue to believe in the power of mentorship.

Most of all, we’re grateful for the young people at the heart of everything we do.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving filled with good food, good company and plenty to be thankful for.

Come make a difference with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo!

We’re looking for Program Coordinators to join our team and help create meaningful mentoring experiences for children and youth in our community.

In this role, you’ll coordinate mentoring programs, build relationships with volunteers, schools and community agencies, and help ensure our programs are welcoming, inclusive and impactful.

We’re looking for someone with experience in the social work sector, a strong understanding of working with youth, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people and families.

If you’re passionate about community, connection and making a lasting difference, we’d love to hear from you!
