Through StopHateAB, newcomers and immigrants can confidentially share their experiences of hate incidents. Reporting helps build a clearer picture of what is happening in our communities and supports efforts to create safer, more welcoming communities for everyone.

📣 Report a Hate Incident — Your Voice Matters

Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies and StopHateAB are working together to hear directly from newcomers and immigrants about experiences of hate incidents in Alberta.

Through this project, we are collecting stories and experiences to better understand what is happening in our communities and help inform how organizations and communities can respond and provide support.

📝 The survey is anonymous and confidential and takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.

Your experience matters. By sharing your story, you can help build a better understanding of hate incidents affecting newcomers and immigrants across Alberta.

When you are new to the region, knowing where to find important information and where to go for support can be challenging.

During Welcoming Week 2026, the Newcomer Resource Fair at the YMCA of Northern Alberta - Wood Buffalo, brought 17 organizations together in one place, making it easier for newcomers to learn about local programs, services, and supports and connect directly with organizations in the community.

Attendees described the event as very welcoming, informative, and helpful, highlighting the value of bringing community resources together in one place.

Thank you to all of our participating organizations and everyone who helped make the event possible!

Newcomers contribute to Wood Buffalo in many ways, including volunteering their time, skills, and experiences to strengthen our community.

Today, FuseSocial hosted a Newcomer Volunteer Training as part of Welcoming Week 2026. Participants learned about volunteering in Canada, how to find opportunities in Fort McMurray, and the ways volunteering can build connections and experience.

Participants then put their learning into action with a community cleanup, helping make an area of downtown cleaner for everyone ☀️

Last week, the Local Immigration Partnership was pleased to present the findings of the Wood Buffalo Newcomer Needs Assessment, exploring the experiences, needs, and priorities of newcomers in the region across a range of settlement and integration areas.

We are excited to share that the research report is now available on our website: https://www.newcomers-ymm.ca/survey

Thank you to Councillor Luana Bussieres, former Councillor Funke Banjoko, Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Clair Antoine, members of the Steering Committee, and the many community partners who joined us for the presentation and have supported this work throughout the process.

Join Arts Council Wood Buffalo for the Eat & Greet Community Potluck, part of Welcoming Week 2026.

Enjoy food, live music, creativity, and conversation while connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Bring a dish to share or simply come as you are. A children's play area will also be available.
