SUCCESS IN OTTAWA 2026 Canadian Youth Chess Championships
Erin Zhao our young chess prodigy from Fort McMurray who recently and successfully represented the Canadian Chess Team in Italy, brought another honor to our chess community by finishing 3rd overall in the just concluded 2026 CYCC in Ottawa last week. Erin’s unbeaten run after 7 rounds in Girls 14 Under Category were impressive.
Another young contender in Boys 10 Under Category Muneer Hussain showed true grit in the last round of the competition by refusing to accept a drawn game position and pushed forward to aim for the 2nd place finish, however he was not so successful and landed in the 11th place among 100s of participants.
Congratulations to both of you by bringing pride and honor to our little chess community here in Fort McMurray.
