We are closely monitoring the active wildfire situation around Baril Lake.
At this time, we are not aware of any fires that have reached Child's Island. However, because our current school group was evacuated from Baril three days ago and fire conditions continue to change with shifting winds, we cannot say with certainty that Owakonze is out of danger.
Yesterday's much-needed rainfall was a welcome relief and has helped conditions in the area. We remain hopeful and will continue to share updates as we learn more.
