🐾We wanted to share an update on Onyx since so many of you have been invested in his wellbeing. After his first veterinary visit and initial diagnosis, we decided to seek a second opinion, which gave us a different diagnosis than the first. Because of the difference of opinion, we chose to pursue a third opinion. The third veterinarian agreed with the second veterinarian’s opinion and determined that Onyx does not need Medial Patellar Luxation surgery. They concluded that he is not a surgical candidate and that his condition is actually a genetic bilateral hip dysplasia. Because of this, the best plan for Onyx will be focused on long-term management and comfort, including a proper diet, weight management, dietary supplements, pain management medication when needed, and a comfortable place to rest. We’re grateful to finally have clarity and a path forward for his care.🐾
Because the fundraiser was created for Onyx’s surgery which will no longer take place, refunds will be issued to donors accordingly. We want to ensure everyone's generosity is handled with honesty, transparency and respect. Thank you for loving Onyx with us, and thank you for your patience while we wait for results and answers from the veterinarians.
As we’ve come to better understand the challenges affecting Onyx, we wanted to share a little more about him again. Onyx is a 4-year-old Dogo Argentino who is incredibly sweet and loving with people he trusts. Onyx is not good with other animals and would need to be the only pet in the home. He can also be selective with men, so we would strongly recommend multiple meet-and-greets with any potential adopter before moving forward with adoption. He will need patience, time, and consistency to become comfortable before transitioning into his forever home.
Due to his medical condition, Onyx’s adoption fee has been reduced to $100. He will however require a hypoallergenic diet that costs approximately $200 per month, along with pain medication that averages about $100 per month.
