Preeclampsia Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but awareness, advocacy, education, and research must continue all year long. 💜

Whether you are a survivor, healthcare worker, advocate, researcher, parent, friend, or supporter — your voice matters. Every conversation, shared story, educational post, and act of advocacy helps bring greater awareness to preeclampsia and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Together, we continue to:
• Advocate for more research
• Raise awareness about signs and symptoms
• Support education and early detection
• Share stories and resources
• Honour families affected by preeclampsia
• Fight for better maternal health outcomes

Thank you for being part of this community and helping keep the conversation going beyond May. 💜

Preeclampsia doesn’t always end with pregnancy. Women who have experienced preeclampsia are at a higher risk for heart disease, stroke, and other long-term health conditions later in life. 💜

After preeclampsia, ongoing follow-up care matters. Be sure to talk to your doctor every year at your well-woman visit about your pregnancy history and its potential impact on your:
• Heart health
• Blood vessels
• Kidney health
• Mental health

Your pregnancy history is part of your lifelong health story. Awareness and continued care can make a difference.

Diagnosing preeclampsia involves more than just checking blood pressure. Monitoring changes in your body and routine testing can help healthcare providers identify warning signs early. 💜

Tests that may be used to diagnose preeclampsia include:
• Blood pressure monitoring
• Urine protein testing
• Weight monitoring
• Blood tests to assess:
- Kidney function (creatinine & uric acid)
- Liver function (AST/ALT)
- Placental function

Awareness and early detection can make a lifesaving difference for both mom and baby.

Preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy can affect any pregnancy — even in those with no known risk factors.

They occur in 5–8% of all pregnancies, making awareness, early recognition, and advocacy so important.

Knowing the signs and symptoms can help save lives. 💜

Is there a cure for preeclampsia?

Right now, the only “cure” begins with the delivery of the baby and placenta.
Until then, care is a careful balance—monitoring both mom and baby closely, sometimes using medications to safely prolong pregnancy and give baby more time to grow.

But once preeclampsia starts, it can’t be reversed. Every decision matters, weighing the health of the mother and the baby. In some cases, early delivery is the only way to save one—or both—lives.

Awareness matters. Early detection matters. Care matters. 💛
