Fonthill Lions Club The Fonthill Lions Club was established in 1945 and have the unique distinction of being “The Motto Makers” for Lions International.

The Fonthill Lions Club started with 24 members in 1945, receiving its charter on April 3, thanks to sponsorship from the Welland Lions Club. The Lions park, now the Gord L. Klager Park, named after Charter Member Gord Klager, was purchased in 1970 by the Lions Club. The 7.5 acres of vacant land was officially opened as a park in 1972. The park continues to serve the community today. In their many years of service to the community, the Fonthill Lions have held many events and raised funds for a variety of causes. There have been golf tournaments, soap box derbies, bike-a-thons, walk-a-thons, paper drives, public speaking programs, boxing nights, Christmas parties, participation in Canada Day activities, raffles, lotteries, yard sales, and Agriculture Night, which continues today. The Fonthill Lions have the unique distinction of being “The Motto Makers” for Lions International. In 1954, Fonthill Lion Doug Stephenson’s motto of “We Serve” was chosen from 6,000 entries as Lions International’s motto. Lions are friends, family and neighbors who share a core belief: community is what we make it.

SLIDERFEST and Grand Prize tickets are available from any Fonthill Lions Member or online at: www.sliderfest.ca.

Please note, the Grand Prize winner does not need to be present at SLIDERFEST to win.

This will be a fun event for all ages with proceeds going to Fonthill Lions Community Service.

Just in from Fonthill Lions Club! 📢📢📢…..announcing the Chefs who will competing on August 12 for SLIDERFEST 2023 “People’s Choice” Award for the best tasting slider!

Returning challengers are reigning champion The Butcher and Banker Pub and Righteous Monger (Kame & Kettle B**r Works)from Fonthill. Competing for the first time are 1954 Bourbon & Smoke from St. Catharines, Culinary Dropout Fonthill and Smokin' Buddha from Port Colborne.

The early-bird ticket price prior to June 30 is $35 (plus HST) and includes one of each of five sliders, a serving of Fonthill Lions French fries, local corn on the cob and a non-alcoholic drink. Entry for children under 12 is free. Kids menu items including hot dogs, French Fries and individual sliders will be available for purchase.

Local blues band The Rhythm Hounds are returning for the fourth year playing live in the park starting at 5pm.

There are only 500 SLIDERFEST tickets available on a pre-sold basis. Event organizers recommend not to leave it to the last minute because the event does sell out quick. Early bird SLIDERFEST tickets are for sale online at www.sliderfest.ca or via email at [email protected].
