This week the Trail Crew was busy on the Coal Creek Heritage Trail, Ben Emmett, and Bacon Bits, including getting the new trailer feature completed!

On the Coal Creek Heritage Trail the last of the interpretive signage has been installed, ready for the grand opening tomorrow! On BC Trails Day, last Saturday, we hosted volunteers for some trail tuneups in anticipation of the grand opening. The trail is in amazing shape and ready for the official unveiling - there will be a grand opening event this Saturday afternoon (June 13) at the Fernie Aquatic Centre Pavilion from 12 - 3pm.

The crew completed some fixes and upgrades on Ben Emmett in preparation of the trail being used for Singletrack 3 and Tears and Gears. They replaced three bridges and improved some drainage issues. With all the rain, this area of the valley is still pretty soggy, but should be riding well when the sun comes our way again.

On Thursday, trail crew and volunteers installed wood decking through the trailer feature on Bacon Bits. We had an amazing turnout of volunteers and the corners leading to the trailer were also massively improved with awesome berms. The trailer decking was a huge project and caps off Bacon Bits as a unique and easy green lap, or as a nice singletrack finish to Swine/Y’Eddy/Mad Cow routes. This fun trail project got started as a collaboration with Fernie Secondary School, and was capped off last night with a late night effort when our amazing volunteers refused to quit before it was done (the maple bacon bit donuts may have helped). Thanks to the contributions of FSS, the Nevados crew and all our other volunteers, we have a great new trail that's sure to appeal to all skill levels and ages.

With all the rain, many trails will still be soggy to start the weekend - but Y’Eddy was already running great Thursday with dirt that gripped like velcro. Try a Y’Eddy lap with a finish through the new trailer feature on Bacon Bits. Or, for an easy rip, just do Bacon Bits on its own!

This week, the Fernie Trails Alliance Trail Crew continued work on the new historical signage for the Coal Creek Heritage Trail ahead of the June 13 grand opening of the North Section.

The Ancient Cottonwoods Trail is in good shape for the season and is a great option for a quick, easy walk through a beautiful forest. Deadfall has been removed and brushcutting complete.

A few crew members completed a mission removing deadfall on Mocassassin, Stupid Traverse, Stupid Trail, and Lazy Lizard Connector. Thanks to the volunteers who helped clear trees on Lactic Ridge and S-Bomb as well!

We hosted students from Fernie Secondary School for a dig day on Bacon Bits, improving trail sections and enhancing features. We continued dirt work on Bacon Bits at the Thursday Night work party, finishing an entry gateway. With dirt work nearly complete, decking installation through the trailer is coming soon.

Dirt is drying up nicely after all the recent rainfall and conditions for the weekend should be mint. A tour up the tuned-up Gorby Trail opens up a ton of technical riding options, and you can check out the new bridge on Old Goat, built last week by crew and great volunteers.

Matheson Falls trail is also in great shape and the falls are very impressive right now! Use caution near fast-flowing water.
