✊ Local 1998 members are standing stronger together!

Hundreds of USW Local 1998 members rallied across all three University of Toronto campuses to stand behind their bargaining committee and send a clear message: workers deserve a voice in decisions that affect where and how they work.

With approximately 500 members rallying at St. George, 70 in Mississauga, and 35 in Scarborough members demonstrated the power of solidarity as they fight to protect negotiated rights, accessibility, work-life balance and fair workplace policies.

As bargaining continues, Local 1998 members are standing united and making their voices heard.

When we stand together, we are stronger. ✊💙💛

✊ Solidarity on the Picket Line

The strike at USW Local 14241-01 continues, and this weekend the strength of solidarity was on full display.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated and stood in solidarity – thank you. Your support reminds our members that they are not standing alone.

Together, we remain committed to supporting Local 14241-01 as they continue their fight for a fair collective agreement.

USW Local 14241-01 members continue to stand strong on the picket line after rejecting Salit Steel’s concessionary contract offer.

The 46 members have been on strike since June 24, fighting to protect job security, retirement savings, sick days and negotiated workplace rights.

“No one wants to be on strike – we want to get back to work. But we deserve to be fairly compensated for the work we do and to have our rights and retirement security protected” said Shop Steward Al Bird.

USW stands with these members in their fight for a fair collective agreement.

Last week, USW Local 1005 commemorated the 80th anniversary of the historic 1946 Stelco strike- a defining 81-day battle that helped shape Hamilton’s labour movement.

The courageous steelworkers stood together for a 40-hour work week, paid vacation and union dues check-off. Backed by their families, fellow workers, veterans and the broader community, they demonstrated the incredible power of solidarity and won a decisive victory.

Congratulations to Local 1005 on this important milestone. Eighty year later, we proudly honour the workers who stood their ground and celebrate the strength and solidarity that continue to define Local 1005 today.
