💙💛 Standing together to end period poverty.

The USW District 6 Women of Steel Committee was proud to support the Period Promise campaign by collecting menstrual hygiene products and essential care items for those in need.

Period poverty affects far too many people across Canada, and through solidarity and community action, we can help everyone has access to the products they need with dignity.

The committee was honoured to present its donation to Jackie Taylor, on behalf of United Way Greater Toronto and a proud member of USW Local 9042, whose ongoing advocacy and partnership continue to strengthen this important initiative.

A heartfelt thank you everyone who donated and helped make this initiative a success, and to our partners for their continued commitment to building stronger, healthier communities.

Together, we are making a difference – stronger together.

🎉 Strong unions build stronger communities! 💙

When cuts threatened Labrador City’s annual Family Day celebration, USW Local 5795 stepped up to help ensure this beloved tradition could continue.

By supporting Family Day on August 22, the local is helping create a day where families can come together, children can make lasting memories, and the community can celebrate what makes Labrador City so special.

Supporting our members means supporting the communities they call home. That’s solidarity in action.

Today, USW District 6 Director Kevon Stewart joined government, industry, labour and community leaders in Nova Scotia for the launch of the Mining and Minerals Workforce Alliance.
The new alliance will bring together labour, employers, Indigenous partners, educators and government to address workforce challenges, strengthen training and apprenticeship pathways, and help ensure the jobs of tomorrow are good jobs with strong health and safety protections and family-sustaining wages.

As a member of the MiHR Board of Directors, Kevon spoke on the importance of giving workers and their union a voice in shaping the future of Canada’s mining and minerals workforce.

Steelworkers are proud to support initiatives that invest in workers, strengthen skills development and help build a stronger future for Canada’s mining communities.

Last week, Steelworkers joined thousands at Queen’s Park to send a clear message: public health care is worth fighting for.

From healthcare to community activists, people came together to oppose privatization and defend the public services that workers and families depend on.

When governments put profits ahead of people, workers fight back. That’s why USW District 6 members were proud to stand in solidarity with allies from across Ontario to protect universal public health care.

The fight for justice must include reconciliation.

June is National Indigenous History Month. USW members and leadership across Turtle Island take this month as an opportunity to learn about First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and celebrate their resilience, diversity of cultures, experiences, teachings and traditions.

As union members, we recognize that workers’ rights and Indigenous rights are interconnected.
