🌿Happy Canadian Environment Week! 🌿

This week, we celebrate the incredible natural spaces, wildlife, and waterways that make Canada so unique — and the actions we can all take to protect them. From reducing waste and conserving water to planting native species and supporting local restoration projects, every choice helps build a cleaner, healthier future.

Here in Windsor‑Essex, we’re proud to champion environmental stewardship along the Detroit River and beyond. Let’s keep working together to protect our ecosystems, support biodiversity, and create a greener community for generations to come.

🌎💚 Small actions. Big impact. Let’s make this week count!

From wetlands and forests to grasslands and coastlines, our national parks and conservation areas play a vital role in storing carbon, protecting biodiversity, and helping communities adapt to a changing climate 🌳 Parks Canada highlights eight key ways these natural spaces make a difference — from safeguarding species at risk to restoring ecosystems that act as natural climate solutions.

Every time we explore, support, or help protect these landscapes, we’re contributing to a healthier, more resilient future for all.

🌎💚 Nature is one of our strongest climate defenders — let’s keep it thriving.

This is great news for Windsor-Essex! Collavino Conservation Area has opened up in the watershed 🥳

Collavino Conservation Area is a Provincially Significant Wetland and Environmentally Significant Area that provides important habitat for a number of Species at Risk, including Blanding’s Turtle, Eastern Foxsnake and Queensnake. The site is also recognized as a Priority Canadian Habitat Site in the Detroit River Area of Concern, making its long-term protection and stewardship an important contribution to regional conservation and biodiversity goals.

🦋✨ Monarchs Have Arrived — and They Need Your Help! ✨🦋

The first monarch sightings of the season are here, and there’s something amazing you can do right at home to support their journey.

Did you know you can create a Monarch Waystation in your own backyard? By planting milkweed and nectar flowers, you give monarchs the essential resources they need to breed, refuel, and continue their incredible migration across North America.

And here’s the exciting part —
🌼 You can officially register your habitat with Monarch Watch!
When you do, your garden becomes part of the Monarch Waystation Registry, a global network of butterfly‑friendly spaces. You’ll even receive a certificate with your name and your habitat’s unique Waystation ID.

Every garden counts. Every milkweed stem matters.
Let’s make this monarch season unforgettable and help keep their migration alive. 🧡🦋

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the redesignation of BUI 5: Bird/Animal Deformities or Reproduction Problems 🐣 It was such a joy walking through Ojibway together and spotting turtles, fish, birds, a deer, and even a raccoon!

A huge shout‑out to our amazing partners for hosting such informative booths and sharing the important work they do. And an extra special thank you to our two fantastic nature hike guides, whose knowledge and enthusiasm made the walk even more meaningful. What a great day for our community and our environment 🐢
