Bras d'Or Lakes CEPI

Bras d'Or Lakes CEPI The Bras d'Or Lakes CEPI is a collaborative effort initiated by the 5 Mi'kmaq Chiefs of Unama'ki in 2003. We want to keep the Bras d'Or Lakes Golden!

The Bras d'Or Lakes Collaborative Environmental Planning Initiative ["CEPI"] strives to create and facilitate the implementation of a watershed management plan for the Bras d'Or Lakes watershed. The Bras d'Or Lakes is a unique estuarine ecosystem located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. The CEPI was started by the five Mi'kmaq First Nations of Unama'ki (Cape Breton). It operates out of the Una

ma'ki Institute of Natural Resources in Eskasoni. Our planning and research partners include universities, non-profit environmental and watershed stewardship groups, all levels of government, industries, and Mi'kmaq Elders. Traditional ecological knowledge is an important part of our process, and we seek to integrate it into our research and planning via the Two Eyed Seeing approach.

Pitu’paq Partnership Society Request for Proposals

Pitu’paq is a group of municipal government and Mi'kmaq leaders that collaborates on issues of environmental concern related to the Bras d’Or Lake. The Society formed as a committee in 2001 and then formalized as a society in 2007 and includes representatives from all five municipalities and all five Mi’kmaq communities in Unama’ki, Cape Breton. Pitu’paq creates a table where local leaders can discuss concerns and ideas to improve the prosperity of the people, animals and environment in and around the Lake. Pitu’paq is the Mi’kmaq word for Bras d’Or meaning “to which all things flow” which evokes complex systems of the Lake.

The Pitu’paq Board of Directors has a need for support for both administrative and project/partnership management. Please review their Request for Proposals for these services by visiting the link below:
