Announcing a new investment for We’koqma’q: Keltic Quay
Chief and Council are pleased to announce that, as of October 1, 2026, We’koqma’q L’nue’kati officially acquired Keltic Quay, an established tourism and hospitality business located on the Bras d’Or Lakes in the Village of Whycocomagh.

Located in We’koqma’q’s ancestral and claimed territory, the investment reflects Chief and Council’s continued vision to build a strong, self-sustaining economy by investing in successful local businesses and creating new opportunities for Community.

Keltic Quay joins a growing portfolio that includes investments in Clearwater Seafoods, Glenview RV Park & Campground and Skye Communications.

The investment also contributes to a broader vision for a growing Indigenous tourism market, gathering and connection to the land.

Along with the Bras d'Or Lakes Biosphere Region, the Fundy Biosphere Region is one of the 13 UNESCO sites in Atlantic Canada. The partnership between the Fundy Biosphere Region, the City of Moncton and the Province of New Brunswick has contributed to the national network of protected and conserved areas and goal of conserving 30% of lands and waters by 2030.

In case you missed it, approximately 3,765 hectares of natural areas managed by the City of Moncton have been recognized for their long-term conservation value.

This includes Irishtown Nature Park, Mapleton Park, the Turtle Creek Watershed, Humphreys Brook Trail and Wilson Marsh. Fundy Biosphere Region was proud to lead the review work with the City and the Province of New Brunswick, with funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Mark your calendars, the 2026 Peak Fall Colours Timeline is here!

From the fiery reds of the Cabot Trail's northern tip to the golden hues rolling through the Bras d'Or Lake shoreline, every corner of the Island puts on its own show this October. Whether you're chasing crimson ridgelines or amber coastal trails, there's a peak window for every leaf chaser!

You might expect colours to peak north to south as cooler weather moves in, but it's actually the opposite here. After years of observation, we know forest type, elevation and temperature all play their part in this south-to-north progression.

Remember: these are estimated windows only, as actual peak colour always depends on the weather. But one thing's for sure, nowhere does fall quite like Cape Breton Island.
