"Mountain Songs", written by award-winning composer Jake Runestad, is featured in our upcoming collaboration concert with the Barrel Boys.

This piece brings three traditional bluegrass tunes into conversation with the voices of the choir, the soaring colours of the strings, and the fire of a bluegrass band.

Bluegrass music grew out of the Appalachian mountains, blending the folk traditions of Irish immigrants with African American musical influences to create a style rooted in storytelling, rhythm, and community. With driving banjo lines, soulful fiddles, and high lonesome singing, bluegrass speaks both to hardship and to joy, to loss and to celebration.

Experience Jake Runestad’s "Mountain Songs" live on October 3, as The Elora Singers and The Barrel Boys bring this vibrant work to the stage.

Introducing the Barrel Boys!

Established in 2012, The Barrel Boys have spent the past decade crafting a distinctive sound that balances innovation and tradition. Renowned for the breathtaking vocal harmonies and instrumental prowess that are central to bluegrass, old-time, and country music, what really sets The Boys apart is the heartfelt original writing that continues to charm audiences across Canada.

"There's a certain "band next door" feel to the Barrel Boys. They may be accomplished musicians with tight harmonies and great arrangements, but their music is also brimming with the kind of personality that makes you want to buy them a b**r and hear their life stories."

-Kristin Cavoukian, “Exclaim!”
