Jack MacDonald left a legacy to support projects in the former village of Elora and this fund is now accepting applications until October 6, 2025!

Applications should support any of the following:
Belonging and leadership, Housing, Health, Wellbeing and Food Security, Arts & Culture, Narrowing the gap between Rich & Poor, Environment

All projects must be completed by December 31, 2026.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A local charitable foundation announced it received a “record-breaking single gift” from a Guelph business owner.

The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) announced it has received $3.45 million from benefactor Russel Cox, who founded Cox Construction in the 1940s.

“I’ve been a builder for my entire life. I’ve started many projects and finished them all. This gift is something I want to be a catalyst for the next generation, now and in perpetuity,” Cox said in a news release.

CWCF is a charitable foundation that helps donors and local charities connect.

Cox previously donated $500,000 to the foundation.

“We are honoured and profoundly grateful for this second generous gift from Russel Cox,” said Randall Howard, CWCF chair, in a press release. “This gift will allow us to drive new efforts and expand our impact with increased granting programs allowing us to better respond to urgent and growing community needs.”

The press release said addressing food insecurity is a priority for Cox and the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington (CFGW) will be one of the first recipients.

Karyn Kirkwood, CFGW executive director, said in the release the donation will help make sure students are fed through its Keep Kids Fed at School program which they have seen a rise in use in recent years.
