At the Presentation Night May 8th we presented The Assiniboine West Watershed with a grant for 683.50 to purchase apple trees for the Elkhorn School Grade 5 class. We received a call from AWWD Manager Ryan Canart to say he had the trees in and would be presenting them to the students on June 10th. We joined him at the school where he made a a very interesting classroom presentation to the students about the importance of trees to our environment. After the presentation we went outside where the kids got to see their trees. Ryan took the time to explain to the kids how to plant their trees and how to care for them. This is such a great program that the Elkhorn and Area Foundation is proud to assist with. If cared for their trees will live for years. Hopefully the kids will think about Assiniboine West Watershed District, The Elkhorn & Area Foundation and the environment when they look at and hopefully pick apples from their tree for years.
Grade 5 parents if your child didn’t tell you the planting instructions for their tree be sure to watch the videos for some tips.

Following the presentation of The Elkhorn and Area
Foundation Grants was the introduction of the Nominees for Elkhorn Citizen of the Year. A well deserving list of Wenda Paton, Travis Sanheim and Garth Mitchell. All nominees have been selfless volunteers, proud promoters of the community and willing to jump in and make Elkhorn a great community to live in. Congratulations to all the nominees, well deserved for each of you. Congratulations to Garth Mitchell “Citizen of the Year”

The final grant of the evening was presented to Riley Brennand representing the Elkhorn District Community Centre who applied for a grant to replace a hot water tank and roof repairs. Presenting a grant of 20,000 is Elkhorn Foundation Board Member Rhonda Hansen

A committee has been formed to look at constructing a new skating rink in Elkhorn. Representing the New Facility Committee is Kevin Tutthill accepting a grant for $15,000.00 towards Phase 1 Concept Design. Presenting is Elkhorn Foundation Board Member Rhonda Hansen
