๐ TRANSPLANTS CHANGE LIVES ๐
Behind every transplant is a journey filled with courage, sacrifice, hope, and healing.
In 2018 alone, the University of Alberta Hospital performed 353 transplants, serving patients from across Western Canada and all 10 provinces through specialized programs like the islet diabetes transplant program.
For many transplant patients, the journey means months away from home. Patients must be accompanied by a caregiver and, on average, families spend nearly 3 months in Edmonton during treatment, recovery, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical care.
Thatโs why the Transplant Housing Program, in partnership with the GoodHearts Foundation, is so important. ๐
๐ 6 furnished suites near the U of A Hospital provide affordable accommodations for transplant patients and caregivers
๐ Housing support is available for a minimum of 24 couples every year
๐ 2nd Chance Trail Ride Society has helped support over 50 families with safe, secure, and comfortable housing during life-saving transplant procedures
๐ To date, 2nd Chance Trail Ride Society has donated more than $215,000 to GoodHearts to help operate these apartments
The support doesnโt stop there. Caring community members also create and donate handmade quilts to transplant recipients staying in these apartments โ offering warmth, comfort, and a reminder that they are not alone on their journey.
Every fundraiser, donation, sponsorship, rider, volunteer, and supporter helps make this possible.
Together, we are making a difference. ๐
