From Minnesota to Edmonton and Toronto, Oromo communities are opening businesses, graduating from universities, buying homes, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Every success story may look different, but they all have something in common: sacrifice, hard work, resilience, and a commitment to building a better future.

Many Oromo families arrived in different parts of the world with very little. Today, we are working to empower our children to become doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers, and community leaders by building strong, lasting institutions that will serve all Oromo people through the ORCANA Organization.

Over the past several decades, thousands of Oromo families have made Canada their home, building strong communities across the country.

Today, Oromo Canadians are making valuable contributions in business, healthcare, education, transportation, technology, sports, and public service. Their hard work, dedication, and achievements continue to enrich Canadian society.

Some Oromo owned businesses can be found in major cities such as Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary, and beyond, reflecting the growing presence and success of the Oromo community throughout Canada.

The Oromo community continues to play an important role in Canada’s growth, diversity, and prosperity while preserving its rich culture, language, and heritage for future generations.

For this year, the heritage event was assigned to another Oromo group, and we were advised to reapply next year since they submitted their application before us. In Canada, services are based strictly on a first come,first served system. As the ORCANA Oromo community of Edmonton and representatives of the wider Oromo community, we hope to have the opportunity next year to host.
