Our last day! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦β€οΈ

Today we joined in on the school’s Grade 9 field trip with over 270 of their students β€” plus our amazing group of 15! The students took part in a Rallye through the Old Port and Old Montreal alongside their Quebec buddies and classmates. 🌎✨
The students visited the historic ChΓ’teau Ramezay, enjoyed some authentic Quebec poutine for supper πŸŸπŸ§€, and rode the underground subway/metro πŸš‡ through Montreal.
We finished the trip with an incredible **55,036 steps β€” approximately 41.9 km walked** over our adventures! πŸ‘ŸπŸ”₯
Then came the hardest part… the goodbyes. πŸ’” There were lots of tears, hugs, and promises to stay connected. The bond these kids created with their buddies has been absolutely beautiful to watch and is truly the reason why exchange trips like this are so important.
New friendships, unforgettable memories, learning new cultures, stepping outside comfort zones, and realizing that even across the country, we are all connected. ❀️
Now the countdown begins until their new friends arrive in Alberta! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦βœˆοΈβœ¨

What a memorable final day for the Percy Baxter Middle School Grade 8 Cultural Exchange with our Quebec partners! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦βœ¨ The students spent the entire day exploring the amazing West Edmonton Mall β€” one of the largest shopping and entertainment malls in North America, featuring over 800 stores and attractions! πŸ›οΈπŸŽ’ The kids enjoyed shopping, playing games, dining together, and making the most of every last moment. Some explored in groups on their own while others stayed with chaperones, making sure to regularly check in with the teachers and adults in charge. ❀️

As the day came to an end, emotions filled the air. Saying goodbye was not easy after building such strong friendships and unforgettable memories together. Laughter, hugs, and tears could be seen throughout the crowd as the students shared their final moments before departing. πŸ’•πŸ˜ What an incredible journey and friendship these students will carry with them for years to come! 🌎🀝

What an amazing day full of fun, teamwork, and adventure! πŸŽ‰πŸ’ͺ
The group had an absolute blast at Inside Edge Training ! πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈβœ¨ Students were divided into 3 activity groups:
🧘 One group enjoyed yoga and relaxation
🏐 Another group played touch ball and other exciting games
🌲 The third group tackled the Fitness Forest, completing fun obstacle challenges
The groups rotated through each activity so everyone had the chance to experience them all! The inflatable slide was definitely a favorite among the boys β€” a memory they’ll surely never forget! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ’
After an action-packed morning, the group headed to Brooke’s Creek Campground πŸŒ³β˜€οΈ where the first bus group enjoyed a delicious lunch of burgers, hotdogs, fresh fruits, and chips lovingly prepared by the parents πŸŒπŸ”πŸŽ A huge thank you to all the parents for helping make the day extra special! ❀️
While one group ate lunch, the other group had fun playing shotgun golf β›³πŸ€£, then they switched so everyone could enjoy both activities.
The adventure continued downtown with an exciting community quest πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ™οΈ! Students visited several local businesses using a bingo sheet and map to collect stamps. During the quest, the Whitecourt students proudly took on the role of guides for their Quebec partners, helping them navigate around town and introducing them to the community πŸ€β€οΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Once completed, they had the chance to win special prizes generously prepared by the participating businesses πŸŽπŸ‘
To wrap up the day, the team headed to the Whitecourt Golf & Country Club β›³ for a delicious dinner of perogies, sausage, salad, fries, and homemade cookies 🍽️πŸͺπŸ˜‹
After dinner, many students stayed to enjoy some golfing fun, while others returned to the school for a lively karaoke night 🎀🎢 What a fantastic way to end such a memorable day! ✨

Started the day with a 2-hour drive to Ottawa and once again we had absolutely BEAUTIFUL weather today! β˜€οΈπŸŒ€οΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
Our first stop was the famous ByWard Market πŸ›οΈπŸ where the students got to explore one of Canada’s oldest and busiest markets!
Next up was Parliament Hill πŸ›οΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ where we toured the House of Commons in the West Block. Since the Centre Block is currently under renovation 🚧, the House of Commons has temporarily been moved into this incredible space, which actually used to be an outdoor courtyard before being transformed into the chamber used today!
✨ Fun fact πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
The chairs and tables currently being used in the House of Commons were built in 1917 πŸͺ‘πŸ“œ and are STILL being used today!
πŸ’š Another fun fact β€” why is the House of Commons green?
Because it was modeled after the UK House of Commons πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ which is also green! πŸ’š
πŸŽ₯ The video included is from Parliament Hill and shows when each province joined Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ—ΊοΈβœ¨
We also visited the Royal Canadian Mint πŸͺ™βœ¨ (no photos allowed inside πŸ“΅).
The students learned that Canada has some of the best refining technology in the world πŸŒŽπŸ… and can refine gold to some of the purest quality possible πŸ₯‡βœ¨. The Mint produces coins for over 70 countries! πŸŒπŸ’°
A few more cool facts from our visit:
πŸ₯‡ The Calgary Olympic medals were handcrafted here
πŸͺ™ All Canadian specialty coins are made at this location
πŸ’΅ Canada’s regular currency is actually produced in Winnipeg πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
We ended the day in Ottawa with some shopping at the mall πŸ›οΈπŸ‘ŸπŸ” before heading back on the road πŸšπŸ’¨
We are now making the drive back to our hotel and should be arriving around 9:30 PM local time (7:30 PM MST) πŸŒ™βπŸš

Today our students spent the day in regular classes with our Quebec partners! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦βœ¨
Some fun activities on the side included fishing, board games like Mafia, Jenga, and UNO, disc golf, fat biking, and art. 🎣🎲πŸ₯πŸš²πŸŽ¨
In the fishing photo, they caught a shorthead redhorse, also known as a sucker/redhorse river fish. Other fish varieties included perch, salmon, and catfish.
We ended the day with a wonderful evening at the school, sharing dinner with our families. A great day of connection, learning, and fun! ❀️

What an amazing and action-packed day at Percy Baxter Middle School ! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ˜€οΈ
The Quebec kids joined the school’s Track & Field games and gave it their all while cheering each other on throughout the day! πŸŽ‰ After all the excitement, everyone enjoyed delicious hotdogs 🌭 and chips πŸ₯” for lunch generously provided by Pembina. ❀️ Some of the kids enjoyed getting creative by designing their own tie-dye shirts πŸŽ¨πŸ‘•βœ¨.
To wind down after the games, some students relaxed in the gym watching Harry Potter ⚑πŸͺ„ while enjoying popcorn 🍿 from Vista Theatre, while others had fun playing games together in the lunchroom πŸŽ²πŸƒ.
The fun didn’t stop there! Dinner was a huge hit with yummy pizza πŸ• from Panago Pizza and ice cream sundaes πŸ¨β€¦ so good that many kids happily went back for second and even third portions! πŸ˜„
Lots of laughter, full bellies, new friendships, and unforgettable memories made today extra special! πŸ’™βœ¨
A huge thank you to Pembina, Panago Pizza and Vista Theatre for supporting this wonderful experience for our students! πŸ™Œβ€οΈ

The group headed out early through town on their way to Jasper, where they were lucky enough to catch glimpses of bears, moose, and mountain goats along the journey. When they arrived at the lake, the group first met a park warden who shared important information and regulations about the wildlife and the park to help everyone stay safe and respectful of nature. Afterward, the group was able to enjoy their lunch right by the lake while taking in the beautiful scenery.
The students then spent time exploring the town of Jasper and took turns watching a fun chocolate demonstration at Candy Bear Lair.
After a full day of adventure and sightseeing, the group returned to Percy Baxter Middle School for a delicious dinner of Taco in a Box, spaghetti, fruits, and fresh-cut veggies. It was another memorable day filled with learning, laughter, and great experiences together!
