On October 1st, some members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast attended Inclusion Alberta’s fundraising event—an inspiring evening in support of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and their families.

There were fantastic auction items, great company, and a memorable performance by singer Martin Kerr. Best of all, the event raised significant funds to help Inclusion Alberta continue its vital work advocating for inclusive education, employment, recreation, and full participation in community life.

Inclusion Alberta has spent more than 60 years helping individuals and families access the supports they need to be valued, welcomed, and fully included in their communities. Events like this make a real difference.

Thank you to Inclusion Alberta for the meaningful evening, and congratulations on a successful fundraiser!

We deeply connected with our Speaker Wednesday night - Kristine Nutting, community animator in the greater Edmonton community. Her presentation on 'Democracy' resonated with members as she demonstrated the important role of Social Bridging and Social Capital which fully describes Rotary's community focus. One of our best presenters by far!

This week we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families and communities. We will reflect on the painful history and ongoing impact of residential schools in Canada, which is essential for reconciliation.

Using Rotary's Four-Way Test, we can deepen our understanding of the importance of this day:

Is it the Truth? The truth acknowledges the reality of what happened in residential schools and the trauma experienced by Indigenous peoples. Learning the truth is the first step towards healing.

Is it Fair to all concerned? Recognizing the importance of this day honours the Indigenous communities who have suffered and continue to heal. Fairness means ensuring their stories are heard and respected.

Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Commemorating this day fosters understanding and empathy. When we learn about the struggles and resilience of Indigenous peoples, we strengthen relationships and build bridges between communities.

Will it be Beneficial to all concerned? We benefit by becoming more informed and compassionate citizens. This awareness contributes to the broader goal of reconciliation and helps create a more just society for everyone.

As we reflect on Truth and Reconciliation, let's seek out ways to support indigenous communities.

We are live at the Kaleido Family Arts Festival!

Members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast are proud to be volunteering at the incredible Unity Project.

Why is this project so important?

The Unity Project is an interactive art installation made of 32 poles, each marked with an Indigenous-focused identifier. Visitors take a strand of yarn and tie it to the poles they personally identify with. As more community members participate, the yarn weaves together to form a beautiful, vibrant canopy.

It is a powerful visual reminder of our interconnectedness. No matter our backgrounds, we are all woven into the fabric of the same community.

We had an absolute blast at the Balwin Community League Community Days this past weekend!

The Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast was thrilled to connect with so many wonderful neighbours and families. Our favourite highlight? Putting nearly 100 books directly into the hands of local kids and eager readers!

A massive thank you to Balwin Community League for hosting such a fantastic day of food, fun, and community spirit. We are so proud to support literacy and vibrant neighborhoods right here in Edmonton.

Rotary connection knows no borders!
A huge shoutout to our Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast member, who may live in White Rock, BC, but embodies the true spirit of Service Above Self everywhere he goes!

This past weekend, he stepped up to volunteer for all five days of the Rotary Club of White Rock’s massive semi-annual book sale. This incredible event is a year-round effort of receiving, sorting, and storing books to raise vital for local community projects.

And the impact reaches far beyond the bookshelves!

All proceeds support the Rotary Club of White Rock’s local and international service projects, including youth programs, community initiatives, and global humanitarian efforts such as clean water, health, and education projects.

Whether near or far, Edmonton Northeast Rotary’s passion for volunteering will always reach beyond our district borders!
