Last week, the Edmonton Catholic Schools Division celebrated Catholic Education Week. We are all called, all beacons of hope.

$1151 raised. One brilliant idea. Countless students supported!

It began when Assistant Principal Shanley Alger brought a vision to her community this Lenten season in an act of generosity for students across the division.

The school said yes and what followed was extraordinary. Every dollar raised goes to the Guardian Angel Fund which supports the mental health and well-being of students across ECSD, ensuring that when a child is struggling, the care they need is within reach.

A beautiful reminder that caring for one another, mind, heart and spirit, is something we learn together in classrooms and chapels across our division. Thank you Shanley. Thank you Joan Carr Catholic school. You've made our whole community brighter.

ECSD Support staff appreciation week, Apr 20-24. Alongside every thriving school is an incredible team. This week we are grateful for our support staff at ECSD and proud to be part of a community that values every one of them. The ECSD says, "our support staff are the vital ties that bind us together as a team." Well said.

This small moment of relief is what our Conquer Hunger Fund is all about. Currently, 1 in 3 children in Canada are at risk of attending school on an empty stomach, which makes it very difficult to focus on learning. By subsidizing healthy breakfasts and snacks, we ensure that hunger never stands in the way of a student's potential. Every child deserves to start their day with the nourishment and energy they need to succeed.

We’re kicking off 2026 by highlighting our Conquer Hunger Fund. Throughout January, we’ll be sharing how this fund subsidizes nutritious meals and snacks for ECSD students, making sure that hunger is never a barrier to education.
