This week our students came together to support The Sacred Woods. Some of our Grade 5/6 students built a two story Rooster House for Goose, and some of our youngest students in Grade 1/2’s in Leadership Club raised an incredible $600.00 in less than an hour for the Sanctuary Farm to put towards vet bills.
These contributions not only directly support the farm, but also create another meaningful opportunity - a chance for some of our youngest students to experience the power of making a real difference. Through our community support, they are able to see that their efforts matter, that their voices have impact, and that they can help shape the kind of world they want to be part of 🤍

This is the shift.

From passive to active.
From memorizing to meaning-making.

When students are immersed in real work creating, questioning, building, collaborating learning isn’t forced… it’s inevitable.

✨ This is where curiosity lives
✨ This is where confidence grows
✨ This is where thinking gets real

The Sacred Woods Farm Sanctuary

A place of refuge.
A place of learning.
A place of belonging.
A place of wonder.

Many of the animals who live here are seniors now. They need extra care, softer landings, gentler days and the kind of attention that honors the lives they have already lived.

The Sacred Woods is home to an assertive rooster. A blind pony who navigates the world with sound and trust. Pigs who were once destined for slaughter.
Goats, ducks, horses, cats, pot bellies, dogs and a bunny named puddles.

But this sanctuary is not only for animals.

It is for people too.

Children from the Caraway community come here to learn, explore and grow wild, resilient, creative and grounded. Adults come seeking connection, quiet, nature and community.

These woods hold stories.
Stories of adventure.
Stories of resilience.
Stories of love, joy, and play.

This forest teaches us how to slow down.
How to root.
How to breathe again.

The Sacred Woods is a sanctuary for those who need softness.
For those who need safety.
For those who need to be seen in a world that sometimes feels like its eyes are closed.

Here, everyone belongs.

Caring for animals (especially those living out their days) comes with many costs, the most prevalent being vet bills. If you have the means to give, I’ve attached the link in this post. 💛✨

Learning isn’t forced, it’s nurtured. 🌱
When we create safe spaces, spark curiosity, and lead with patience, growth happens naturally.
Whether you’re parenting, teaching, or leading… focus on the environment. The learning will follow. 💛

Caraway’s Open House is tonight - don’t miss a chance to see what we’re all about.

Research shows that when children have voice, choice, and real-world experiences, learning sticks.
Democratic and project-based learning builds motivation, responsibility, and deep understanding whether that means building a trebuchet, running a student market, or learning in the forest.

This is hands-on.
This is values-driven.
This is real learning.

Research shows that learning in nature helps children focus better, feel calmer, and connect more deeply to their learning.

Environmental psychologists Rachel Kaplan and Stephen Kaplan found that time in nature restores attention and supports focus.

Studies by Frances Kuo show reduced stress, better emotional regulation, and improved well-being in children who spend more time outdoors.

Research from Louise Chawla and Marianne Fjørtoft highlights stronger collaboration, confidence, and physical development through climbing, building, and exploring.

This is learning that’s embodied.
This is learning that sticks.
This is education rooted in nature. 🌲
