🌱 Spring doesn’t wait for anyone — and neither does the work.

Our March newsletter is live on the Insights Hub. This edition covers a lot of ground — from reflecting on the Tumbler Ridge shooting and standing with trans and nonbinary communities, to celebrating the historic launch of Black Q***r Canada, to amplifying Hope for Refugees International’s powerful piece on safety, belonging, and power in our sector.

We’re also sharing two open roles (applications close April 2!), lifting up our Employment Equity sign-on letter, and reminding members of two upcoming events on March 18 and 19.

Spring is here. The work continues. We’re glad you’re in it with us. 🌿

We believe strong movements are built by amplifying the right voices — including those outside our own walls.

Today we're sharing a powerful piece by Patrick King Mwesigye, Founder and Director of Programs at Hope for Refugees International. Written following a Post Human Rights Day Symposium on q***r joy and resistance, Patrick's article confronts a critical gap in Canada's 2SLGBTQIA+ movement: the difference between tokenizing LGBTQI+ refugees and newcomers, and actually recognizing and resourcing them.

It's a necessary read. We're proud to host it on our Insights Hub.

Some people don't just do the work — they become the work.

Lisa Duplessis, Director of Programs and Community Services at The 519, arrived in Canada in 2008 as a refugee claimant from Jamaica. Nearly two decades later, she has helped thousands of 2SLGBTQ+ newcomers and refugees settle, integrate, and find community in Toronto's Church and Wellesley Village — and across the country.

NOW Toronto's Q***r & Now just published her story, and it's one worth reading in full. Lisa was recently honoured at the Black Q***r Canada Summit — an event deeply connected to the network of organizations and community builders that The Enchanté Network has helped cultivate — in recognition of her tireless advocacy and service.

Her words from her acceptance speech stay with us: "Community building means making sure no one has to survive alone what we were meant to overcome together."

That is the work. That is why it matters.

The Enchanté Network has always believed that representation isn't enough — infrastructure is.
As Canada's national network of 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, led by a Black, Q***r team, we knew firsthand that Black 2SLGBTQIA+ communities needed more than inclusion within a broader network. They needed an organization built specifically for them. That recognition — surfaced through our Back to Our Roots consultation — is what led to the creation of Black Q***r Canada (BQC).

NOW Toronto's Q***r & Now just published an in-depth look at BQC's work: disaggregating data by identity, region, and lived experience; connecting leaders coast-to-coast; and building the evidence base to drive real policy change on housing, employment, and rural inclusion.
We're proud to have helped plant the seeds. This is what it looks like when community consultation leads to lasting, dedicated infrastructure.

Public Sign-On Letter: Modernizing Canada’s Employment Equity Act

Today, The Enchanté Network, in partnership with Pride at Work Canada, is sharing a public sign-on letter calling on the Government of Canada to modernize the Employment Equity Act and implement the recommendations of the Employment Equity Act Review Task Force.

For too long, 2SLGBTQI+ communities have been excluded from employment equity protections—despite ongoing barriers to safe, equitable, and affirming work, especially for trans and nonbinary people and for Two-Spirit, Black, Indigenous, racialized, and disabled community members.

📄 The full letter (and full list of signatories) is attached.
👇 We’ll be tagging signatory organizations in the comments—please reshare to help build momentum.

In recent days, we’ve been holding Tumbler Ridge, BC in our thoughts following the February 10, 2026 shooting. We honour the lives lost and extend care to everyone grieving.

We also want to be clear: no community should be blamed or stigmatized for the actions of one individual. In the wake of recent coverage, we’ve seen misinformation and harmful rhetoric—much of it directed at trans and nonbinary people, and sometimes through false claims targeting innocent individuals.

Trans and nonbinary people are valued members of our network. Please reach out with care—check in, listen, and remind the trans and nonbinary people in your lives that they are not alone.

— Tyler Boyce, Executive Director
